Leeds St. Johns, who were later to become Leeds Rugby League Football Club then in turn to became Leeds Rhinos, moved to Headingley in 1889 and built Headingley stadium.
The record attendance at Headingley was 40,175 for the rugby league match between Leeds and Bradford on the 21st May, 1947.
Leeds RUFC, later to become Leeds Tykes, was formed in June 1991 after the amalgamation of two clubs, Roundhay and Headingley.
