Review: Sennheiser RS 65 wireless headphones
The headphones plug into the base station for charging pretty easily; two tabs on the sides of the station slide into slots on the 'phones, and one of the tabs has the charge contacts on it.
If you want to wear headphones while mowing the lawn then a sealed system (that blocks external noise and so doesn't need as much volume) will work better than the open RS 65s, but the flip side of this is that the RS 65s don't have very much sound coloration.
Headphone music all over the house just isn't that important to me. I don't mind stopping the music to go and do things, and the dangling cord is no more than a minor annoyance.

HeadWize - Article: A Quick Guide To Headphones (A HeadWize Headphone Guide)
Headphones are categorized first by their type of transducer (earspeaker) technology and then by the style of wear.
Electret headphones have many of the same sonic characteristics of electrostatics (fast, detailed sound), but the electret elements may be prone to depolarization as they age, at which point they must be replaced.
Headphone systems for hard-of-hearing people must be able to reproduce sound at very high volume with low distortion (such as those used by musicians and audio engineers).

Manufacture a range of headphones most are closed back designs with bass boost intended for DJ usage rather than hi-fi but a couple of their models have a respectable specification, they also have an in-ear model and a open back backband model.
Makes some of the best headphones in the world and is the company that invented the electrostatic headphone in 1960 with the SR-1 model after having been making electrostatic loudspeaker elements for a few years, or rather the "earspeakers" as they want their products to be called, they even have an in-ear electrostatic (!!??).
Headphones are actually as old as reproduction of sound itself but they remained a mostly professional tool right up until the 1970's apparently since musical reproduction was more of a social phenomenon than it is today.

HeadWize - Article: Judging Headphones For Accuracy (A HeadWize Headphone Guide)
Diffused-field equalized headphones alter the frequency response of headphones to resemble a curve similar to those in figure 1, thereby restoring some of the HRTF contouring that is normally missing with headphones.
Headphone couplers (also available for earphones) are sold by such audiometric supply companies as Digital Recordings and must be fitted with a microphone connected to a real-time spectrum analyser (most equalizers have a built-in RTA and there are computer programs that turn PCs into spectrum analyzers).
Judging headphones for accuracy is not an intuitive process, but unlike loudspeakers that have to be moved around and positioned for optimal sound, can be done with hardly any exertion.

Open headphones are not always the type that sit on your ears, they sometimes are full sized headphones with some sort of opening on the sides to allow the sound to resonate better, (many of the Sennheiser's and AKG's we recommend are this type).

We wanted to test how good the headphones were at reproducing sound, how effective the noise cancelling was, how comfortable they were to wear for lengthy periods and what kind of value they offered.

Catalog Critic: Noise-cancelling headphones -- the sounds of silence   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Noise-canceling headphones, which counter external sound waves by sending a signal nullifying them to users' ears, have been around for decades, but the selection continues to expand.
Each headphone registers noise coming into the ear and then creates "anti-noise," an opposite sound wave meant to cancel the one entering the ear, which significantly reduces the sound.
Though the headphones can be used for noise-canceling alone, they're generally used to listen to music or movies, especially on a plane.
