Headed by a Chairman, at the moment President Nelson Mandela from South Africa, and a Vice-Chairman, at the moment Sir Ketumile Masire President of Botswana, who are elected for an agreed period, the Summit meets at least once a year.

Most of the women heads of households encountered work twice as hard as the married ones, since they must look for ganyu employment, for which they are remunerated far less than a man for similar tasks, in addition to cultivating both their dryland and wetland fields and to caring for their children.
Death or ill-health of the male head of the household, or of the wife, with the consequent loss of labour unit, leads to the decline in the status of the household and ultimately to poverty.

Government Land will henceforth refer exclusively to land acquired and privately owned by the government to be used for dedicated purposes such as government buildings, schools, hospitals, public infrastructure or made available for private use by individuals and organizations.
The Government strongly supports gender sensitive access to land and calls for changes in inheritance laws to allow the remaining spouse, children and especially orphans to inherit the property of their parents even when the deceased parent or parents die without a will.
The Government will install special protections for the land rights of minors and place a legal duty on Chiefs, Headpersons and adult members of the family to protect the land rights of a surviving spouse and children in both matrilineal and patrilineal inheritance areas throughout Malawi.

Malawi, Africa (BANG) - Madonna can do a big "jump" since she's finally had her wish of adoption granted and everything seems to be running smoothly now.
Malawi's Human Rights Consultative Committee had tried to block the adoption plans earlier on Tuesday, claiming the singer had not adhered to the country's strict inter-country adoption laws.
Last week, Malawi's High Court granted Madonna and her husband, director Guy Ritchie, an interim order allowing them to take custody of the child.

Malawi has not made much use of TCDC and would benefit from this modality by tapping experiences from the sub-region particularly in the areas of participation development, decentralisation, poverty alleviation and good governance.
