The SUNY Health Science Center, Brooklyn, consists of a series of medical, academic and administrative buildings on the north side of Lenox Road in Brooklyn, with administrative and student buildings on the south side of the street.
In 1997 the Center decided to extend the voice, data and video services across the street to the residential facilities and student life areas.
Compass Consulting was engaged through a competitive bidding process to assist the Center in planning and implementing the first phase of this project which consisted of running fiber optic cable across the street and providing telephone and data services from the Definity system and the campus network to the administrative offices.

Many older adults with health limitations such as heart disease, diabetes, or arthritis, hesitate to exercise because of fear/barrier or they are unaware of alternative exercise options.
As part of the Steps to a Healthier New York Initiative, the Broome County Health Department (BCHD) adopted community gardening in a senior center as a model to increase physical activity, reduce the proportion of obese older adults, and increase the number of seniors who eat at least three daily servings of vegetables.
While the senior center in the study had weekly organizational support from the BCHD, the gardeners took ownership of the program for the second year and required no input from the BCDH.

On that date, the Center’s emergency generators were activated, but the electricity produced by the generators could not, at first, be transferred to the Center because of the failure of two automatic transfer switches.
The Center’s engineers were eventually able to get the generators to transfer power to the Center, but the Center’s hospital was without power for more than two hours.

 Greater New York Health Community to Address Diagnosis and Treatment of Middle Ear Infections In Children
ALBANY, March 17, 2000 - The New York State Health Department, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn and community-based practitioners will conduct a diagnostic workshop and management consensus conference on acute otitis media in children.
The conference also will include members from the New York Region Otitis Project Committee, which was formed to address growing concerns among clinical and public health practitioners regarding the over-diagnosis of acute otitis media, excessive and inappropriate treatments, and the emergence of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial drugs.
The first objective of the committee was to evaluate the current literature and practice in the diagnosis and treatment of otitis media, and this will be a major focus of the consensus conference.

During the first year the goal is for 20 students from the pipeline track to be selected into the program, 20 and 25 are the goals for the second and third years respectively.

The internal medicine residency program at SUNY-HSCB is fully integrated between the Brooklyn Campus of the VA New York Harbor Health Care System (VA), Kings County Hospital Center (KCHC) and the State University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB).
There are approximately 140 trainees in the program, who spend 33-50% of their total time at the VA. The trainees comprise a culturally diverse group, with over 50% having completed medical education outside of the United States and/or speaking English as a second language.
Be able to counsel patients regarding the different vehicles available to them for expressing treatment preferences and be able to implement an advance directive at the proper point in the patients' care.
