Review | Winter's Heart by Robert Jordan
Like The Lord of the Rings, which was chopped up by its publishers, it tells one story over the course of multiple volumes.
Like the pyramids, it is too vast to be ignored.
Winter's Heart, however, is encouraging, even though trivial romantic dilemmas and periods of pensive inaction still tend to overshadow the momentousness of what is going on.

Heart Like a Wheel, one of the great sleeper movies of 1983, opened last year to the raves of critics but not much fanfare.
Heart Like a Wheel is the story of Shir- ley Muldowney, a woman who succeeded at drag racing.
Movies like Rocky III portray their characters in a very sancti- monious light, all the way down to having someone on screen yelling "Go for it!" Heart Like a Wheel draws its viewers to Muldowney in such a way that we can share both her feelings and her racing.

 Heart Like A Wheel
Releasing Heart Like A Wheel as the lead single from the album Romantic was either a very good idea or a very stupid one.
Heart Like A Wheel’s popularity with the fans (not the general public, they couldn’t give a toss about it) is attributed to the fact that it “sees a return to the classic Dare sound” - not a direct quotation, just the sort of thing I can imagine a Human League devotee saying.
Heart Like A Wheel returned the band to pure electronica and its freneticism hinted at the kind of edgy, nervous tension that would crop up several times on Octopus and finally define pretty much the entire sound of Secrets.

It also convincingly demonstrated that the building of the famous new studio hadn't sunk them for good, and most crucially that they were not stuck in a post-'Crash' RandB groove, but had tentatively re-discovered their synthetic, electronic sound that would reach best effect on later albums.
But even though ‘Heart Like A Wheel’ marks a relatively low point of the League in purely career terms, this is to be blamed on the fickleness of the record-buying public, rather than on any unlikely aesthetic failings at HL HQ.
They’ll probably never quite match the immaculate dreamscapes of the timeless ‘Dare’ LP, but ‘Heart Like A Wheel’ is closer to that triumph than to the truly painful disaster that was ‘Crash’.

It's often said that this 1974 set, Ronstadt's true commercial breakthrough after a half decade's worth of minor hits, set the formula for the platinum successes to follow: some underrecognized singer/songwriter jewels, a couple of semi-obscure early rock tunes, always with something for country radio as well as Top 40 to grab hold of.

Everyone's in agreement on the Wheel of Time's first four or five volumes: They're topnotch, where-have-you-been-all-my-life epic fantasy, the best in anybody's memory at the time since The Lord of the Rings.
The ninth installment in Jordan's sprawling Wheel of Time saga is as bountifully pregnant with plot threads as its predecessorsDand as bewilderingly esoteric for readers who have yet to commit its previous episodes to memory.
I suspect a ratcheting up in the advance of the major plotlines, perhaps hinted at by the conclusion that ends "Winter's Heart." There is little question that, in terms of plot advancement, the last three books have slowed considerably, and many would claim that "Path of Daggers" decidedly lagged.
