From its inception on October 1992, "Heartbeat Alaska" is produced as a hard-hitting, syndicated news show about Alaska's contemporary events.
Jeanie shares that "Heartbeat", was a type of foundational platform used by the Lord Jesus, to launch His vision in reaching indigenous and Native people globally with the gospel, through television.
Television amongst Native people is even more extraordinary and demanding, in that it requires millions instead of thousands of dollars, and that, amongst some of the world's poorest and most misrepresented people.

CJR - Good Morning, Tuntutuliak!, by Charles Wohlforth
Before television arrived in 1977 in Alaska's tiny native villages -- places with names like Tuntutuliak and Kivalina and Noatak -- storytelling and visiting were the dominant forms of entertainment.
For example, a white reporter's attempt to make eye contact with an Alaska native interview subject could be taken as an insult in a culture in which keeping eyes downcast is a sign of respect.
Some in the mainstream say Heartbeat, by telling natives' stories only from their own perspective, takes a shortcut around traditional journalistic standards.

 TV Heartbeat
The rural community is Aidensfield; the "heartbeat" is a reference to medical issues that find their way into the series (continued with the arrival of Dr Bolton); and it’s about an English policeman "on the beat" (as they say) in those parts – definitely not to be confused with any modern references to a "beat".
You won't believe this, but according to Melissa's Heartbeat Page [a fabulous resource for Australian "Heartbeat" fans] Derek Fowld's real-life "girlfriend" is a teacher named Jo (the same name as the character of the teacher in the show).
This is not a criticism, there is room for all types in the broad church of television, and "Heartbeat" deliberately appeals to those of us who want the assurance of a solid story with a happy ending.
