The HEARTLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE was born as the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference on June 23, 1987, when the presidents of six private Indiana colleges and universities formed an association based on the academic excellence of each institution.
During the spring of 1991 the presidents of the member institutions voted to align the conference with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Heartland league championships are awarded in eight men's sports, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field.

In June 1998, the College of Mount St. Joseph became a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) formerly known as the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The expansion brings North Coast Athletic Conference membership to 10 NCAA Division III institutions spanning the states of Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

While at Wabash, Carlson was twice named Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference (ICAC) Coach of the Year, and was one of just two coaches to guide his team to three ICAC championships.

Wynn was an All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team selection as a junior and senior and was a 2nd Team All-Mideast Region selection as a junior.

Freshman defensive end Kyle Rode (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) earned All-HCAC recognition in his first collegiate season as he quickly made a name for himself at Bluffton when he was chosen HCAC player of the week following his seven tackle, two sack performance at Hiram in week two of the 2005 campaign.

There, she led the Yellow Jackets to the last two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championships and the accompanying berths in the NCAA Tournament.

 Manchester College Claims HCAC Commissioner's Cup
Manchester College will receive the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s inaugural Commissioner’s Cup for amassing the most points in the HCAC’s 17 championships during the 2005-2006 seasons, announced HCAC Commissioner Tom Bohlsen.

 Austin College to join SCAC in 2006-07
The SCAC Board of Directors, comprised of the chief executive officers of the member institutions, reached a unanimous decision to admit Austin College during the league’s annual spring meeting held yesterday in Atlanta.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recently announced its plans to join the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and is leaving the SCAC following the 2005-06 season.
Austin, whose mascot is the Kangaroo, fields varsity teams in basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball for women and baseball, basketball, football, soccer, swimming and diving, and tennis for men.

Flynn was a part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship football team that finished the 1999 season with an undefeated conference record and a 9-1 overall mark.
