 Aurelius Township Michigan Early Settlement
Bullen early in 1837, and lived in the township until the fall of the same year, when he removed to the village of Jefferson, in Alaiedon township.
The first settler in the southeast part of the township was John Barnes, from Cayuga Co, N. Y., who purchased land in September, 1836, on sections 23 and 26, and settled with his family in June, 1837, half a mile east of what is now Aurelius Centre.
He was among the most prominent citizens in the township, and his sons, Orlando M., Zaccheus, and John A., have also become worthy and respectred citizens.

They're opposed by the Michigan Restaurant Association and the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, which say eateries and bars should be free to decide whether to allow smoking without intrusion from government.
Several Michigan counties have barred smoking in workplaces, but courts have ruled that only the Legislature can impose bans in restaurants.
The Red Cedar Grill in Williamston became smokefree about six months ago after owner Craig Heath realized the number of smokers at the restaurant was diminishing and more nonsmokers said they were bothered by the smoke.

The Little Rabbit River is a tributary of the Rabbit River, with a 30,850 acre (125 km²) watershed that drains sections of four townships in Allegan and Kent Counties: Byron Township in Kent County, and Leighton, Dorr and Salem townships in Allegan County.
The upper reaches consist of two small branches: the Red Run Drain, which rises in the extreme western edge of Leighton Township just north of Moline and the Dorr and Byron Drain, which rises in the southern portion of Byron Township.

Lake Michigan College ushers in the age of telecommunications - instructional programs on television transmitted by satellite - this week with and informational meeting about an advanced engineering course and a conference on student assessment.
The course will be the first in Michigan to be transmitted via satellite from the university to an off-campus location, according to Christina Davis, director of WMU's Benton Harbor Regional Center, which is located in the Lake Michigan College Community Center, 1100 Yore Ave.
She said the three-credit "Principles of Marketing" course was selected because it is one of the prerequisites for Western's new MBA program which is scheduled to begin at the regional center in the fall of 1989.
