Warriors of Heaven and Earth may be timed to capitalize on the popularity of Hero, but it is not the same kind of film.
The first half of the movie is reminiscent of a Western, with the dusty desert town, robber-baron boss, and the honorable lawman who forms a temporary alliance with his equally honorable prey to fight for justice.
Instead of heading toward a high-noon showdown, however, the film shifts gears into swashbuckling mode, with supernatural objects and large-scale sword fights.

Their film, Capote, derives its strength from the protagonist’s epochal journey west, his ambiguous sentiments and his ruinous sorrows.
All it would take is a mix of official indifference to warning signs, the kind of absurd and unreasonable Western guilt pushed by the academic left, and the kind of stupidity that always issues comes from people who, unlike doctors, don’t have to work for a living.
Or the bombers of London, who loathe the West, love death, and cannot wait to strike again--with, of course, the aid of the useful idiots who believe in appeasement, capitulation and surrender to the very worst this young century has to offer.
