  Black Sabbath
The album was basically a cash-in, and some would say an inappropriate cash-in given that (by this time) Ozzy had left the band and Sabbath was now in the Dio-era, but it's decent enough if you don't expect it to live up to the standards of Made in Japan or Zeppelin's BBC Sessions.
Another un-Sabbathy Sabbath classic is Sabbra Cadabra, which is as close as Sabbath ever came to doing a generic 70's 'bar-rock' number in their prime, and which pleases me greatly because I love humming that riff and hearing Ozzy sing his "love me til the end of tiiiiiiiiime!!!" lines as well as he does.
Black Sabbath may have, by making this kind of album, totally given up any pretense of ever again being on the cutting edge, but at least they were able to enter a slight groove of decency.

 VH1.com : Black Sabbath : Biography
Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style.
Black Sabbath, which took an even more extreme tack than the still blues- and folk-based Led Zeppelin, was lambasted by critics (and though they eventually made their peace with Zeppelin, they never did with Sabbath).
For Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (November 1973), the band brought in Yes keyboard player Rick Wakeman on one track, signaling a slight change in musical direction; it was Black Sabbath's fifth straight Top Ten hit and million-seller.

Black Sabbath are a British heavy metal band originally composed of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums).
Initially a blues band, Black Sabbath became one of the definitive classic heavy metal bands, to be ranked alongside Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Judas Priest.
Black Sabbath have been cited by some as the source of much doom metal and fl metal.

RevelationZ Magazine - Album Review - Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
An incredible strong album that shows both nerve, epic features, attitude, melody and fantastic composed and performed songs, tracks so tight and powerful that the temptation to turn up the volume and just surrender to the groove while the ground shakes beneath is too big.
When talking about Black Sabbath in general it seems as if the conversation most of the times concentrates on the first years with Ozzy, I’m just of the opinion that there are a whole bunch of Sabbath albums of just as high musical quality as the first ones.
Heaven And Hell has those genius vocal parts in the songs slower parts, not to mention the fantastic bombastic refrain, poetic philosophical lyrics that makes you twist your mind, Iommi’s stellar guitar work in the mid-section and the up-tempo ending part with outstanding lead guitar passages.

When Tony Iommi sat in the studio recording this album, he no doubt felt confident that it would be the milestone album that took Black Sabbath to new heights of popularity and made fans forget all about Ozzy Osbourne.
Heaven And Hell is a milestone album, not for proving that there is life after Ozzy, but for introducing Ronnie James Dio - a relatively unknown vocalist - to the world.
This album is a hard rock classic..Iommi's guitar tones on this album, along with great vocals, neat songwriting, and a real sense of purpose (we're back without Ozzy, so check it out) made this the dio-sabbath mothership.

Known Audios - HEAVEN AND HELL Tour
The band dropped “Black Sabbath”, “Children Of The Grave” and some of the extended solos due to the fact that they had to share screen time with B.O.C. Aside from the out of sequence presentation of their songs, it is somewhat jarring to alternate between the different styles of these bands.
Adrian: “The burning cross provoked the Vatican to do a press release to the effect that Black Sabbath should be careful of the message they were putting out as a lot of Christians took notice of what they had to say and burning the cross did not give a good message.

Black Sabbath : The Mob Rules - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
1981's Mob Rules was the second Black Sabbath album to feature vertically challenged singer Ronnie James Dio, whose powerful pipes and Dungeons and Dragons lyrics initially seemed like the perfect replacement for the recently departed and wildly popular Ozzy Osbourne.
In fact, all the ingredients which had made their first outing, Heaven and Hell, so successful are re-utilized on this album, including legendary metal producer Martin Birch (Deep Purple, Whitesnake, etc.) and supporting keyboard player Geoff Nichols.
In that light, one can't help but compare otherwise compelling tracks like "Turn Up the Night" and "Voodoo" to their more impressive Heaven and Hell counterparts, "Neon Knights" and "Children of the Sea." This unhappy streak is finally snapped by the unconventional "E5150," a synthesizer-driven instrumental.

Heaven & Hell marks a defining moment in the life of one of the premier rock bands in the world.
Heaven and Hell, although reveals the band in a new musical light, would give Sabbath a new lease of life that they have enjoyed ever since.
This album has lost Ozzy and therefore (in my view) is not actually a Black Sabbath album, more of an earlt Dio album.

Amazon.com: The Eternal Idol: Music   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Sure, this is Black Sabbath at it's most unstable period in their whole career and this album failed horribly on a commecial stand point (the worst selling album by them in fact), but it's the music that counts!
After Ray Gillian did the vocals for this album, he fled the Black Sabbath camp and the vocal tracks had to be rerecorded by new comer Tony "The Cat" Martin.
Maybe (as many suggested before) the reason for this albums demise was that at the time Black Sabbath was at a low point in popularity, eclipsed by thrash metal like Metallica and Slayer and the horrid pop metal gendre ect which was all the rage back then.

The bass line for Heaven and Hell was written by Geoff Nicholls.
Geoff Nicholls was originally brought in to replace Geezer Butler, but moved to keyboards when Geezer returned to the band before the album was recorded.
There's another rumour that the bass on this album was actually played by Craig Gruber, and not Geezer, but this is largely unfounded.
