		Heavy Vegetable was, I believe, Rob Crow's first band.
		While much more Math-Rocky than pinback's material, you can still find the unmistakably quirky and innovative, not to mention CATCHY, endearing qualities that have drawn so many as of late to this highly underrated artist's material.

		By Steve Huey-- Following the 1995 dissolution of the quirky art-pop band Heavy Vegetable, guitarist/singer/songwriter Rob Crow and lead singer Eléa Tenuta regrouped in Thingy, which turned into one of the restless and prolific Crow's main creative outlets.
		Both natives of the San Diego area, Crow and Tenuta added bassist Jason Soares (formerly of Loader, Rice, and Stacatto Reads) and quickly cut a seven-song EP, Staring Contest, which was released on Heavy Vegetable's old label Headhunter/Cargo in 1996.
		Its drummerless, mostly acoustic approach was a marked departure from Heavy Vegetable's short, fractured, progressive compositions and punk roots.

		The best way to describe Heavy Vegetable (as their name hints) is to say they are an Indie band (almost what I would typify as "College Rock") with a very progressive leaning.
		The last I heard, Rob Crow is in a band called Pinback and Elea had gone on to an also-demised band called Thingy.
		I heard clips from both bands and both sounded good, but not as enticing as Heavy Vegetable.
