Hebburn (54º58'09.23"N, 1º30'40.19"W) is a small town situated on the south bank of the River Tyne in north eastern England, sandwiched between Jarrow and Bill Quay.
The Lordship of the Manor of Hebburn was to pass through the hands of a number of families during the Middle Ages; Wilby, Gray and the Baxters who, in 1530, conveyed North Hebburn to Richard Hodgson who was to be Lord Mayor of Newcastle on three occasions.
Hebburn's relative affluence on comparison to Jarrow was used by the Government in 1936 to manipulate unemployment figures in the area, so the rate of unemployment in Jarrow 'fell' from 72.9% to 39.6%.

 Hebburn No. 1 Colliery
Hebburn No. 1 coal was described by the "Australian Mining Standard" publication, in its September 1906 issue, as being an excellent gas-coal, giving a large yield of high illuminating value, and that the coke produced was fairly hard and dense.
Hebburn No. 1 Colliery was one of the first large progressive South Maitland Coalfields collieries to make available transport carriages on the skip tracks to convey miners close to their underground working places.
This Hebburn locomotive shunted and marshalled the wagons at the colliery to the "Flat".

Hebburn Limited on the 12th March 1919 purchased a second-hand steam driven Sirrocco in readiness to provide fresh air for the workings of its new colliery Hebburn No. 2 Colliery.
Hebburn Limited with the influx of capital from the new company formation in 1914 and plus the enthusiasm of its principal shareholder, Huddart Parker Limited, looked to expand into the interstate coal markets, particularly the Victorian region.

 Hebburn - Review - One Little Gem And Not Much Else
The first mention of Hebburn in history dates back to the 8th Century when it was described as a settlement of fishermen’s huts that were burnt down by invading Vikings and the area seemed to have been given over to agriculture until the 1790’s.
The warship HMS Kelly was built at the Hawthorn Leslie shipyard in Hebburn and a large number of her crew were Hebburn men.
Hebburn does have one little gem worth a visit and that is the Riverside Park and Marina, the development of this area has been ongoing since the 1970’s.

The town of Hebburn is in North East England on the South side of the River Tyne.
H.M.S. Cavalier was berthed at Hebburn for a while, since May 1999 she has had a permanent berth at Chatham Historic Dockyard.
South Tyneside Council originally bought the ship and docked it at Hebburn, intending that it would be the centre of attraction for a maritime visitor centre.

Whilst a Scottish name, its origins are widely suspected to lie south of the border in the north of England.
Specifically, the name is thought to have derived from either the town of Hebron or Hebburn, both of which are in the Northumberland area.
The origins of the name are suggested to be the same as that of Hebburn from the Anglo Saxon words heah, meaning high and byrgen, meaning burial place.

Built in 1965, Hebburn Community fire station is located on Victoria Road West, Hebburn and covers the west side of South Tyneside Metropolitan Council and part of Gateshead County Council South.
The Community Safety Centre at the rear of the Station houses the Community Safety Team and the Hebburn branch of the Young Firefighters Association (YFA).  A Secondary Control Room for the Service is also shortly to be installed within a separate building to the main Station.
