H.M.S. Cavalier was berthed at Hebburn for a while, since May 1999 she has had a permanent berth at Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Built in 1965, Hebburn Community fire station is located on Victoria Road West, Hebburn and covers the west side of South Tyneside Metropolitan Council and part of Gateshead County Council South.
This station is one of only two that provide Tyne and Wear with a rope rescue capability in addition to the firefighters responding to all types of emergencies.
The Community Safety Centre at the rear of the Station houses the Community Safety Team and the Hebburn branch of the Young Firefighters Association (YFA).  A Secondary Control Room for the Service is also shortly to be installed within a separate building to the main Station.

In October 1860, The Blyth and Tyne Railway (BandT) opened an extension of its line from Dairy House Junction near Hartley, towards Monkseaton and on to Tynemouth, the section between Monkseaton and Tynemouth following the course of the old Whitley waggonway.
Passenger trains were withdrawn from the branch in June 1929 due to poor passenger numbers, but it remained in use as a freight line.
Another line constructed by the NER was a new route between Pelaw and Tyne Dock via Hebburn and Jarrow, opening in 1872.
