House Shadow Drake - What is a Hedgewitch?
A Hedgewitch is a path within a tradition that is somewhat shamanic in nature, for lack of a better term.
A Hedgewitch is able to go into the Otherworld, and call back the souls of those who are about to die.
Often, these Hedgewitches were seen as riding upon a broom or riding-pole and flying through the air.

Rae Beth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beth is associated with the Hedgewitch movement, a movement within contemporary neo-Paganism that champions pursuing Pagan practices as an individual, often following a solitary course, rather than attending covens.
The name "Hedgewitch" implies that such Pagans are keen to gain allegiance with nature.
Many people credit Rae Beth with the term "hedgewitch," but it is quite conceivable that she stumbled upon the term, much like everyone else who reads into certain histories.

The significance of the hedge was that it served as a boundary to assist the witch in her spiritual trips.
Hedgewitches were also reported to have made hallucinagenic formulas from herbs to make their spirit journeys easier.
Hedgewitch DOES NOT mean solitary - and that is what the 'author' Rae Beth tells her readers.

 hedgewitch
The term hedgewitch derives from original German and is a phrase that means ‘rider of the hedge’.
Holding certain powers because of their close relationship to nature and the magical world, it is highly likely that the hedgewitch of old would have used intoxicating herbs for visions and journeys in order to access information from the spirits, that were so much a part of life in ancient days.
The main distinction between a hedgewitch and more ‘traditional’ witchcraft is that hedgewitches have no deep desire for the more religious/ceremonial aspects of coven witchcraft, having an individual and often unique way of relating to life and Creation.

The irony here is that many people think a Hedgewitch is someone who practices alone, but in reality Hedgeriders NEED to practice in groups so they can help bring each other out of the trance states.
The Hedgewitch would annoint her besom, pitchfork, goat, distaff, or bread paddle, place it between her legs so that the ointment could enter her body via you-know-where, and "off" she went.
She also claims that the Hedgewitch is the "solitary" witch, which as stated in the first paragraph of this essay, is plain silly--if you know the true definition of the word.

The Hedgewitch is very common in Britain these days, though it was once thought to be on the verge of extinction in most places due to government suppression.
The Hedgewitch is often slow-growing due to its preference for shady hollows, and due to its solitary nature it is often slow to reproduce.
It may be governed by almost any deity, or could also possibly have told it to “bugger off and mind your own business if you don’t want this big stick rammed somewhere unpleasant”, an unusual attribute almost unique to this species.

Alchemy Works Seeds for Magick Herbs
Each seed also links back to the ruling planet or Element (in pre-modern times, everyone, not just witches or mages, could identify the known planets in the night sky, so this was a handy way to organize magickal uses).
Planetary correspondences allow you to judge more easily which spiritual entities to associate with a particular plant and which plants are best for what sort of work, be it in terms of traditional witchcraft, Wiccan, hedgewitch, ritual magick, Pagan worship, or just plain old enjoyment.
We sell no genetically modified seeds, and most are open-pollinated, which means you can save seeds from the plants you grow and they will come true.

A Hedgewitch is a solitary Witch who practices a form of magick closely related to shamanism, in that they use herbs, trances, and shamanic techniques to induce altered states of consciousness.
