Playing Choi in AAA doesn't harm his value as injury depth at all - arguably, it'll be better for him to keep playing everyday.
Hee Seop Choi, who has a minor league option remaining, stands to be the last cut.
If Choi has options, he can absolutely be sent to the minors without waivers, unless he has 5 years of service time (which he doesn't) and he can refuse the minors assignmnet.

What I find interesting about the Choi debate is not that the "non-statheads" will disregard the numbers and insist that Choi is awful and doesn't belong in the majors because, well he looks awful (tedious but predictable)- but that the "statheads" will also disregard the numbers and proclaim him to be the next David Ortiz.

Choi's first month is good; let's see what happens when the scouting report catches up to him.
Now, Hee Sop's carrer is far too short to take anything away from these numbers as predictive of future performance, but it does provide some context.
Someday Choi may be a 35-40 HR guy but I don't think he'll ever hit for average.

Choi is a good insurance policy against Lowell not performing.
I've like Choi for a while, and he's played pretty well in his career against righties; certainly well enough to avoid being put on waivers so that his position can be taken by Olmedo Saenz or Nomar Garciaparra.

Hee Seop Choi is finally headed to the Boston Red Sox, having been claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
For the record, I was praying for Choi back in November, and was crushed when the dodgers re-signed him to the one-year deal right before he would've hit the waiver wires.
I like Choi, but I think the move also speaks to the appreheansions the Sox have about their corner prospects.
