SC Heerenveen   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
SC Heerenveen are the standard-bearers of the province.
Their sense of Frisian tradition, pride and folklore made SC Heerenveen 'every Dutchman's second favorite team' when, in 1990, the club became the first ever Frisian club to get promoted to the Eredivisie (the promotion was a major triumph over Frisian arch-enemies Cambuur Leeuwarden, who had come close a few times, but always failed).
It was rather easy for other clubs' supporters to adore SC Heerenveen, because their fans were as friendly off the pitch as the players were on the pitch: Heerenveen's play was attractive but also naive in their first Eredivisie year.

SC Heerenveen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
S.C. Heerenveen (Frisian: SC It Hearrenfean) is a Dutch football club currently playing in the Eredivisie, the Dutch Premier Division.
Its status in the European football scene may be inconsequential but this club achieved something of a phenomenal standard when they managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage in the 2000/2001 season, having secured 2nd position in the Eredivisie in the 1999/2000 season, while being a small club by European standards.
However, SC Heerenveen is seen as the Pride of Friesland by most of the inhabitants of the province, and almost every Frisian is a fan of Heerenveen - except for the people of the Frisian capital, Leeuwarden, who usually support the local team Cambuur.
