 | | During the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Heide’s founding benefactors, John and Sunday Reed, fostered Heide as an idyllic refuge of inspiration for artists and intellectuals and attracted leading exponents of Australian modernism such as Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker and Joy Hester. |
 | | Nolan’s famous Ned Kelly series was painted in the dining room of Heide’s heritage-listed farmhouse, Heide I. Heide is also home to one of Victoria’s most influential modernist buildings, Heide II, and a significant collection of modern and contemporary art, which is featured in a changing exhibitions' program along with works on loan. |
 | | As Heide is currently in its 2005-06 Redevelopment Program, Heide II, Heide III (the main gallery) and Heide Cafe will be closed until its reopening in 2006. |
