  Heimrad Prem Biography
Heimrad was born in Roding in the Upper Palatinate on 27 May 1934.
Between 1959 and 1962 SPUR was part of the 'Situationistische Internationale', an avant-garde group, which was mainly active in France and which propagandised life as art and had conflicts with the authorities due to their anarchistic ideas.
In 1962-63 Prem was able to execute several commissions for murals, partly as group works of all SPUR members.

Heimrad Prem (born 1934) is a German painter born in Roding, Oberpfalz.
From 1949 - 1952 he studied decorative painting at Schwandorf and then studied painting with Josef Oberberger and sculpture with Toni Stadler at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Munich until 1956.
After a short stay in South Sweden, Prem organised the organization of "white celebration" near Munich and began to paint under the influence of drugs.

After this he joined Heimrad Prem, Lothar Fischer and Hans-Peter Zimmer in founding the group SPUR, which in 1959 entered the Situationist International.
He had a six month scholarship in Paris before returning to Munich for the SPUR exhibition in Galerie van de Loo.
In 1961 he stayed with Nash at Oerkelljunga, Sweden with Prem, Zimmer and Deiter Kunzelmann.

 Heimrad Prem, 1934 - 1978
Having escaped from the rural depressions and confined life of his home, Heimrad Prem joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich when he was only 18 years old.
Full of enthusiasm he founded the artist group "SPUR" in 1958, together with Lothar Fischer, Helmut Sturm and HP Zimmer.
At the end of his personal conflicts, his many attempts to arting afresh and his failures, Prem committed suicide.

The discussion of these perspectives leads to posing the question: “To what extent is the SI a political movement?” Various responses state that the SI is political, but not in the ordinary sense.
At the beginning of the second session, on September 26, Heimrad Prem reads a declaration of the German section in response to the questionnaire.
This very long declaration attacks the tendency in the responses read the day before to count on the existence of a revolutionary proletariat, for the signers strongly doubt the revolutionary capacities of the workers against the bureaucratic institutions that have dominated their movement.

 Helmut Sturm Biography
As a student he founded the group SPUR in 1957/58 together with Heimrad Prem, Zimmer and Lothar Fischer.
In 1958 the first SPUR manifesto and the SPUR graphic portfolio with 12 etchings by the artists and texts by Asger Jorn, Hans Platschek and Conrad Westphal was published.
The same year a lawsuit began at the local court in Munich, in which Helmut Sturm, Heimrad Prem and Dieter Kunzelmann were accused of spreading obscene scripts and abuse of religions.

The foundation of the Gruppe SPUR followed a joint exhibition held in autumn 1957 in the Pavillon im Alten Botanischen Garten in Munich by the painters Heimrad Prem (1934 - 1979), Helmut Sturm (1932), Hans-Peter Zimmer (1936) and the sculptor Lothar Fischer (1933).
They devised the group's name in January 1958 when thinking about the tracks of their own footprints in the snow.
In 1965 they painted collaborative gouaches, and started to cooperate with the 'Wir' group; in spring 1966 the two groups were amalgamated to form the 'Geflecht' group.

Helmut Sturm, born in 1932 in Furth im Wald, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1952 to 1958 and became Erich Glette's master pupil.
As a student he founded the group SPUR in 1957/58 together with Heimrad Prem, Zimmer and Lothar Fischer and was awarded a grant to work in Paris for six months.
From 1959 to 1962 the group was a member of INTERNATIONALE SITUATIONNISTE (S.I.).
