  Heinkel He 112
The Heinkel He 112 was a fighter aircraft designed by Walter and Siegfried Günter[?] at Heinkel[?].
He 112 V1 was completed on September 1st, 1935, but pending the unavailable Junkers Jumo 210[?] engine it instead mounted a 695hp Rolls-Royce Kestrel[?] Mk.II.S. Initial test flights at the factory revealed that the drag was much higher than expected, and that the plane was not going to be as fast as originally predicted.
Heinkel had expected orders for additional aircraft beyond the initial three prototypes, and was able to respond quickly to the new contract for the 15 zero series aircraft.

Heinkel also provided the Luftwaffe's heaviest operational bomber, the Heinkel He 177, although this was never deployed in significant numbers.
Heinkel was less successful in selling fighter designs - before the war, the Heinkel He 112 had been rejected in favour of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, and Heinkel's attempt to top Messerschmitt's design with the Heinkel He 100 failed due to political interference within the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM - Reich Aviation Ministry).
In 1939, the Heinkel He 176 and Heinkel He 178 became the first aircraft to fly under liquid-fuel rocket and turbojet power respectively, and Heinkel was the first to develop a jet fighter to prototype stage, the Heinkel He 280.

The early He 112 models submitted for testing were inferior to the 109; they were a blend of old and new features that place it more in competition with the I-16 than the all modern 109.

Heinkel as one of the most experienced firms in the country received contracts were received for two seater aeroplanes.
At this point the 112 was still the favorite over the "unknown" 109, but opinions changed when the 109V2 arrived on the 21 March.
Heinkel claimed that Hertel's background at the Research Institute for Aviation gave him the overwhelming drive to tinker with designs and with Heinkel himself tied up with other contracts there was no one to say "no" to interference.

 Netwings - Heinkel He-112
The He 112 design was based largely on the He 70, a four-passenger single-engined plane designed for use by Lufthansa, which in turn was inspired by the Lockheed Orion.
The He 112 could turn tighter than the Bf 109, but was ouclassed in every other way by the Messerschmitt fighter.
One prototype He 112 crashed during spin tests, further tarnishing the 112 in the RLM's eyes, and paving the way for the Bf 109 to become the Luftwaffe's primary fighter.

FLUG REVUE January 2000: Heinkel He 112 story
This was a late acknowledgement of the Heinkel competitor, which had been lost the competitionfor the new standard single seat fighter for the German Air Force.
The first realised version, the He 112 D-IGSI, was practically a new construction with an oval wing, reduced wing span and profile thickness, an elongated slimmer fuselage and a closed clear view cabin.
When Heinkel had to accept that it was impossible to sell the He 112 to the Luftwaffe, the sales team approached the foreign market.

Of the remaining two, the Heinkel He 112 was the clear favorite to win the contest.
Heinkel's design was created primarily by the twin brothers Walter and Siegfried Günter, who's designs would dominate most of Heinkel's work.
V2 was kept at the factory and modified with a clipped wing that was thinner as well, which was expected to improve the speed of the plane by 25 to 30km/h (15 to 18mph) and allow it to compete with the 109.

The Heinkel He 113 was a supposed Luftwaffe fighter aircraft of World War II, but which existed only as a propaganda andor disinformation strategy.
The plan involved taking pictures of Heinkel He 100D-1 s at different air bases around Germany, each time sporting a new paint job for various fictional fighter groups.
The pictures were then published in the press with the He 113 name, sometimes billed as night fighters rather silly since you could see they didn t even have a landing light.

The first official flight of the Heinkel He 176 V1 was on June 20, 1939 flown by Flugkapitän Erich Warsitz.* On the next day, June 21, the He 176 was demonstrated in front of some of the RLM leaders (Ernst Udet, Erhard Milch).
The prototype aircraft stayed under wraps for years at the Heinkel factory at Rostock-Marienehe, but was eventually crated up and sent to the Air Museum in Berlin, where it was destroyed in an air raid in 1944.

 MPM 1/72 Heinkel He-100
The Heinkel He-100 is a sleek fighter design that was developed to compete as a higher performance aircraft against the Messerschmitt Bf-109.
Ernst Heinkel's intention was also to develop such an excellent fighter that its capabilities and performance would overwhelm anything else it's competitors had to offer, and the German hierarchy would have no choice but to award him the contract.
Handling deficiencies encountered during testing of the prototypes eventuated in the development of the Heinkel He 100D with enlarged tail surfaces and with a conventional, semi-retractable ventral radiator in place of the earlier enclosed system.
