Heinkel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Heinkel was established at Warnemünde in 1922 as the restrictions on German aviation imposed by the Treaty of Versailles were relaxed.
Heinkel was less successful in selling fighter designs - before the war, the Heinkel He 112 had been rejected in favour of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, and Heinkel's attempt to top Messerschmitt's design with the Heinkel He 100 failed due to political interference within the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM - Reich Aviation Ministry).
In 1939, the Heinkel He 176 and Heinkel He 178 became the first aircraft to fly under liquid-fuel rocket and turbojet power respectively, and Heinkel was the first to develop a jet fighter to prototype stage, the Heinkel He 280.

Heinkel He 114 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Heinkel He 114 was a biplane reconnaissance seaplane produced for the Kriegsmarine in the 1930s for use from warships.
The upper set of wings was attached to the fuselage with a set of cabane struts, as in a parasol wing monoplane, whereas the lower set was of much lesser span while having approximately the same chord.
The He 114 was never a great success, was not built in large numbers, and served with the Luftwaffe for only a short time.

Heinkel swapped the twin 600hp BMW engines for the far more powerful 1,000hp Daimler-Benz DB600A engines for the next variant the He 111B.
The variants came, and went using the letters of the alphabet, and a number of experimental or temporary versions were given the letter "V".
Of these it is believed that nearly 100 aircraft had been declared unserviceable which in effect the total Heinkel He 111 strength was only just over 700 aircraft.

When the Third Reich came to power in 1933, the Kreigsmarine (German Navy) was equipped with the Heinkel He 60 biplane.
An interim type, the Heinkel He 114, had poor water-handling characteristics and only slightly better performance in flight than the He 60.
Heinkel choose to continue trying to improve the He 114 but Arado, Dornier, Gotha, and Focke-Wulf responded to the specification.

Number 8-100 was originally allocated to Fieseler, but requested by Heinkel as a "special" number for his aircraft, which was to break the absolute speed record.
Heinkel initially assigned the number He 180 to this project, but this was changed by the RLM to He 280, because it conflicted with the Bü 180.
This digit was - with the exception of "1" for Heinkel - chosen to match the 100 block number assigned to this manufacturer for piston engines.

Hilfskreuzer (Auxiliary Cruiser / Raider) - Atlantis
Like her sister, Talleyrand was low in fuel, and what she had, was transferred to Atlantis, thereby gaining the raider two months extra endurance, while her ammunition was transferred to Tirranna.
She was subsequently used a "target ship" for Atlantis' Heinkel 114 aircraft, which dropped dummy "bombs" on her and practiced tearing away her radio antenna with a trailing grapnel hook.
Realising that the ‘enemy’ was a harmless merchantman, Rogge immediately ordered that two whalers (taken from Tirranna) be launched to assist her crew, all of whom were fortunately rescued from the mountainous seas.
