  Aces of the Luftwaffe - Heinrich Ehrler
Heinrich Ehrler was born on 14 September 1917 at Oberbalbach in Nordbaden.
Ehrler, with his score at 199 victories, scrambled to intercept the Lancasters of 9 and 617 Squadrons at the head of a Gruppe of Bf 109s.
Ehrler was called to account for this disaster and at his court martial was accused of flying to get his 200th victory, instead of guiding his fighters from ground control.

When he was young he became fond of airplanes and spent a lot of time making flying models.
His training wasn't going very well but after long 15 months of hard work he was promoted to the Offizier rank and was transferred to an active roster in June 1941.

Ehrler, the victor in 200 air combats, had been found guilty for the lacking fighter cover when RAF bombers sank the battleship Tirpitz in a Norwegian fiord in November 1944.

Many of the German pilots who fought in the Spanish Civil War with 'Legion Condor' would go on to acheive greater fame as aces in the Battle of Britain only a few years later.
German pilots involved in the Spanish Civil War would include Adolf Galland, Heinrich Ehrler, Wolfgang Schellmann, Eduard Neumann, and Werner Molders.
The Spanish Civil War was also the debut for a new German fighter which was later to become a legend in the hands of the Luftwaffe in World War II, this fighter was the Messerschmitt Bf 109.

Its great to see another Experten remembered in model form and though Heinrich Ehrler isn't a name that readily springs to mind he got over 200 kills in all theatres and richly deserves this place in diescast aviation.
I wished they'd included an option to convert this G-2 into a G-2/R6 with the addition of 20mm gun pods under each wing.
Apparently he was singled out as the commander who failed to stop the Lancasters which eventually sunk the Tirpitz.

New to this great site myself and have a question for the forum.
Just acquired Yellow 12 (supposed to be Heinrich Ehrler) and the white nosed 262 by Armour.
Yellow 12 does not match the Franklin mint art work preview and lacks the yellow bar.

Eventually Ehrler's top score was well over 200 enemy aircraft until he decided to end his life in crashing his Me 262 into an attacking bomber.
The restoration of his Messerschmitt 109 is an utmost exciting exercise for all of us, as even today one can still feel the historical significance of this famous aircraft.

December 1944 was a fl month for JG5 when the Tirpitz was sunk and their Kommodore, Heinrich Ehrler, was made a scapegoat for the disaster.
He later transferred to fly the Me262 as Staffelkapitän of 3./JG7, and achieved 8 further victories flying the new jet.
