Heinrich Focke, architect of famous aircraft builder Focke-Wulf, was one of the few to stay closer to home after the war - possibly a consequence of his dislike for the Nazi regime.
Fockes criticism may also have led to the conspicuously low helicopter interest shown by Hitler's government.
Focke's contemporary was Anton Flettner, who saw noticeably more success with his innovative intermeshing rotor design - later adopted by American Charles Kaman.

Focke's first experience of rotorcraft construction and operation was gained from building the Cierva C.19 and C.30 autogiros under licence, and then in 1934 he built and flew successfully a scale model helicopter that rose to a height of some 18m.
Although his helicopter provided loads of plubicity for the high technology then being developed in the Third Reich, Heinrich Focke was considered "politically unreliable" and in 1936 was removed from control of the company he had founded, and Focke Wulf became a mass producer of military airplanes.
