Heinrich (Henry) Roth, my maternal great-grandfather was a shoemaker and had a shoeshop in the town of York, Nebraska.
His son John Roth, is my maternal grandfather, who fought in the WWI, came home and married Amalia (Mollie) Meisner in 1919, and then served in the National Guard as a Sargent until 1940.
It was a labor of love for the family that she loved and happened to marry into.

The Scherl and Roths that I have seen are good student instruments, but not of the same quality that I have found in the Roths of the late 50's and early 60's.
I purchased it with the original case that is the guitar style case and has the "Roth - the violin of the artists" logo on the front.

This violin was purchased from new by Vanna Brown, my first violin teacher, who sadly died last August at the ripe old age of 98, so it is safe to say that it is a "one owner" violin (not counting me, to whom she left the instrument).
See a photo of Vanna playing the Roth, taken in 1952.
It is in excellent condition, no cracks or damage other than usual signs of normal wear and tear from a life of usage through 60 odd years.
