Stephen Heinze said that he did remove trees prior to obtaining a permit but that it was not an intentional action.

But what is apparent is that Don and Carolyn Heinz, despite their extremely liberal ideology and worldview, suddenly and unconsciously began treating Jonathon Allen like the furniture they re-arranged in their home.
The issue of why the Heinzes saw Jonathon Allen as someone without feelings, without dignity and as less than worthy of human decency goes to the very heart of what humanity means.
