Several witnesses stated the two bodies were carried to a small, bombed-out garden outside the bunker complex, where they were doused with petrol and set alight by Linge and members of Hitler's personal SS bodyguard.

Linge died in 1980, and Guensche died in 2003, shortly before Uhl rediscovered the text.

The Soviet secret service captured the adjutant, Otto Guensche, and butler Heinz Linge in May 1945 and interrogated them for four years, while the Hitler dossier was written, Eberle said.
Linge was released by the Soviets in 1955 and lived in western Germany afterward, while Guensche was transferred to communist eastern Germany in the same year, according to the appendix of the work, ``Das Buch Hitler.''
The information on Hitler given by the two men was double- checked by further questioning and by placing spies in the captives' cells, the historian said.

 B. H. Liddell Hart, Heinz Guderian, Kenneth MacKsey, Constatine Fitzgibbon, General Heinz Guderian - Panzer Leader - Book
Heinz Guderian was central to the development of Germany's mobile forces and was at the spearhead of the early Blitzkrieg campaigns.
Guderian expresses little regret or remorse for his part in the Second World War and there is predictably a strict bias in favour of his homeland, which is undiminished by time or any post-war realisation of the diabolical nature of Hitler and the Nazi regime.
Guderian's central role in the theory and practice of early mobile warfare, plus his subsequent intimate knowledge of Hitler and the Nazi high command, ensures a classic military memoir.
