		Nu närmare vi kommer Helags, desto hårdare blåser det. Molnen ligger lågt och man kan inte se toppen av Helags (1797 möh).
		Stugorna ligger nedanför Helags och man har utsikt upp mot toppen (klara dagar).
		Helags är Sveriges högsta topp söder om polcirkeln och har dessutom Sveriges sydligaste glaciär.

		The Helags, with its highest peak of 1797 metres is the highest mountain south of the Arctic circle and has the most southerly glacier in the country.
		In 1905 the hiking track Ljungdalen - Helags - Sylarna was ready and in 1916 the STF Helags mountain station was established with several cabins.
		Today the "Pensionat Helags" is still open with new owners under a new name, "Wärdshuset Helags", (the Helags Inn).

		We kept on driving down to Ljungdalen, turned left and then came to the end of the road, where we parked the Mini on a parking lot, payed for a three days ticket and began to walk on the path leading to Helags.
		We were not alone, but everyone we met were very friendly and it was a lovely weather.
		Several hors later did we arrive at the Helags cabins.

	Hiking
		From the parking lot at Kläppen 5 kilometres north of Ljungdalen, the trail will take you along an old road through birchwoods of Kesudalen.
		When you have passed the last of the private cottages along the lake of Kesusjön, the trail will take you above the treeline towards the mountain of Helags.
		The powerlines to the Helags Hostel are parallel with the trail.

		We made some breakfast (porridge as usual on hikes) and then tried to get a weather report on the radio/GPRS connected cell phone.
		We found out it was going to be cloudy and eventually rain later on the day, so we packed our food package for the day and set off, aiming for the top of Helags 1797 meter above sea level.

	Tourist information for Funäsdalen
		The Funäsdalen mountains in Härjedalen constitute the southernmost bare mountain area in Sweden, with the highest and most scenic peaks south of the Arctic circle.
		The highest is Helags at 1,796 metres, with a glacier in the giant bowl on the northern slopes.
		On the other hand, large and alluring areas of the mountains are easy to access.

		I walked from Tänndalen in Härjedalen and passed the two large mountain areas Helags and Sylarna which at some points raise as much as 1700 meters above sea level.
		After 6 days I arrived in Storulvån and ended the hike there.

		You can start your trip from Kläppen or from the skilift at Torkilstöten.
		Both starting points are easy to reach by car and the distance to the Helags mountain station is the same, 12 kms.
