  Propagation -- Heliamphora Leaf Pullings
Someday I was removing the dry leafs from one Heliamphora and sometimes these old leafs are still firmly fixed to the base of growing tips so when I pulled one big old leaf it broke one tip with some small leafs without any root.
Of course it was not a good sight but I had an idea based in a previous experience: when I was cleaning sarracenias the same thing happened and by curiosity I inserted the tip in the soil of the plant pot and some time after that the tip was producing new leafs.
Of course I cannot prove if my theory is true or not, however the incontestable fact is that the Heliamphoras are thriving on the same pots of pinguiculas with the sand and long fibered sphagnum mix as proven on later pictures.

 Heliamphora folliculata
The appendage is fused with the back of the pitcher forming a hollow structure running downwards on the outside of the back of the pitcher, apparently working as a chamber to store nectar produced by the glands of the appendage.
Heliamphora folliculata is only known from the Aparaman-group of Tepuis, where we found it on all four mountains: Aparaman Tepui, Murosipan Tepui, Tereke Tepui and Kamakeiwaran Tepui.
Heliamphora folliculata plants were usually found growing in exposed areas with short vegetation such as grasses, bromeliads, Xyris or Stegolepis.

 Heliamphora
The species are collectively known as 'sun pitchers', based on the mistaken notion that the heli of Heliamphora is from the Greek helios, meaning "sun".
These pitcher plants are unusual in lacking lids (opercula), instead having a small hole in the side of the pitcher that allows excess rainwater to drain away, similar to the overflow on a sink.
Heliamphora share the family Sarraceniaceae with the cobra plant and the North American pitcher plants.

 The Carnivorous Plant FAQ: Heliamphora
There are two main areas for Heliamphora, a western range dominated by Cerro Duida and Cerro de la Neblina, and an eastern range consisting of many tepuis rising from the Gran Sabana (the large savannah highland).
Third, for a long time photographs of Heliamphora plants in the wild and in cultivation tended to show specimens that were all green, and not very attractively pigmented.
Heliamphora pitchers have marvelous adaptations to avoid being overfilled by the excessive rainfall on the tepui-tops.

 Cultivation of Heliamphora, the sunpitcher
Heliamphora is endemic to the tepuis of Venezuela (Brasilia) where they have evolved into several different species.
The Heliamphora are standing directly under this light (50cm distance) and they seem to highly appreciate the yellowish intensive light.
During summer 2002 I had a Heliamphora minor x heterodoxa growing outside in my artificial bog and it was growing well and captured lots of prey (similar to a Sarracenia purpurea standing nearby).

Heliamphora is on the difficult side to cultivate, and because of this as well as the expense of obtaining one, it is not recommended for beginners.
Heliamphora is very finicky with temperatures, and will wither when it gets too high.

Die Arten der Gattung Heliamphora sind alle krautig wachsende Pflanzen mit robustem Rhizom, welche neben normalen Laubblättern auch trichterförmige Kesselfallen ausbilden.
