DLL hell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computing, DLL hell is a colourful phrase for complications which arise when working with dynamic link libraries, or DLLs.
DLL Hell is an example of a latent operating system design flaw — that is, problems occur in well-written programs because of bad programming practice or a bug in poorly-written software that is tolerated by the operating system.
DLL hell can be substantially avoided using Registration-free COM, the only limitation being it requires at least Windows XP or later Windows versions and that it must not be used for EXE COM servers or system-wide components such as MDAC, MSXML, DirectX or Internet Explorer.

Hell freezes over, Rambus designs DDR interface
This interface is a complete DDR interface, it does the dirty work on the physical interface side of things.
So the DDR interface should be slow and clunky compared to what it does now, and it pretty much is. What Rambus is offering customers is the "hard part" of a memory controller in a package that you can drop into your design without having to develop it on your own.
If the interface is as standard as they say, it could be a lot easier to upgrade from DDR to DDR2 on your chipset, just rip out the old Rambus module, and plug in another one.

 Contracts and Interoperability
In this fifth installment, Hejlsberg discusses DLL hell and interface contracts, strong names, and the importance of interoperability.
One aspect of DLL hell is that you don't adhere to your promised semantic contract.
The true problem with DLL hell is that we don't allow you to have multiple different versions of a particular DLL present on the machine.

Believing the interface to be the doorway to Hell, she spends her entire family fortune on the fantastic, earth-burrowing "Mole Machine" that she designs and builds with her father's help: the Handbasket, a brass, drill-nosed monstrosity powered by a strange, crystalline commode called the Hyperbowl.

Interface design is a favorite thing of mine and I was wondering if its realistic to think of switching jobs sometime soon into that.
The DMC series does have an interface to use, Ivan was saying that it doesn't have, or need, a complex one.
What that means is that if someone was working on that project, then designing the interface would be a small part of the job of the game and the designer would be working on many other aspects of the game as well.

To start, the trading portion of the game, while fun in its own way, is filled with unintuitive interfaces and loaded up with obscure numbers that make it more spreadsheet than game.
While all of the requisite controls are available within the game to tweak your trading empire, the game lacks the kind of well-designed summary screens and easily understood controls that make these kinds of business sims a pleasure rather than just a pirate skin for Excel.

In many instances, this low-level interface may be hidden by shadow classes or an alternative calling mechanism (this is usually language dependent and is described in detail in later chapters).
Interface files can look at these symbols as necessary to change the way in which an interface is generated or to mix SWIG directives with C code.
Interface files provide a precise definition of what the interface is. Users wanting to extend the system can go to the interface file and immediately see what is available without having to dig it out of header files.

He also had to design a configuration interface so that the package installer could choose what sort of libraries were built.
Unfortunately, this convention conflicts directly with libtool's idea of library interface versions, because the library interface rarely changes at the same time that the release number does, and the library suffix is never the same across all platforms.
Writing a good library interface takes a lot of practice and thorough understanding of the problem that the library is intended to solve.

In one respect, DeltaTechnology is reminiscent of the way the high-end color system vendors used to drive imaging devices—by separating the color screening and final rasterizing of pages from the PostScript interpretation process and moving the screening and final rasterizing into a dedicated hardware unit linked tightly to the recording engine.
Some examples of this separation are the color scanners from Crosfield, Dainippon Screen and Hell, and at the imaging units from Scitex, which employed a dedicated hardware screening unit.
