	"Hellboy" - Salon
		Hellboy (Ron Perlman), as Broom and the soldiers come to call him, grows up to be a strapping, weight-lifting, cantankerous, scarlet-skinned, beer-guzzling hunk of a man who's not a man at all but a demon.
		Del Toro treats Hellboy's tenderness as a delectable joke (at one point he rescues a crate full of kittens from a subway platform that's about to be demolished by a massive creepy-crawly), but he also knows it's the linchpin of the movie, the immovable center around which it rotates.
		When Hellboy attempts to confess his love to Liz, he mutters an apology about the way his face looks, passing his giant, clumsy hand dismissively across his perilous-rock-ledge brow and his barely present nose, which manages to be both hooked and flattened at the same time (although it is also mysteriously fine and noble).

		Continuity: When Hellboy is walking at one point, holding his gun up in his left, gloved hand (just after one of the agents has said "This place is like swiss cheese"), watch the frame.
		Other: When we see Hellboy with stocks around his head and hands, the hole holding his left hand is easily big enough for him to get his hand through (not that it would have helped).

		Hellboy takes a stand for what is right despite enormous pressure to make a decision between unnecessarily limited options.

		Most of the Hellboy stories I have read have involved him being informed of a horrific mystery of some kind and then essentially waltzing in and solving it through magic and his gigantic stone fist, and while these make for generally entertaining reads, they would also make for decidedly one-dimensional movies.
		He is Hellboy, a pissed-off son of a bitch whose only purpose in life seems to be to kick demon ass.
		Hellboy's reason for being is outlined and pretty much resolved in a fairly anti-climactic six pages, with too concrete an ending for my taste (and also involving a sequence a little too reminiscent of Alien: Resurrection for its own good).

		Hellboy may be a big, noisy goof of a comic-book action film, but love is in the dank, dark, subterranean air as the bulky red-hued palooka tries to win the heart of the pyrokinetic beauty Liz Sherman.
		Hellboy likely won't be the best comic-to-screen adaptation this year, but, squared off against its early-season challenger, Marvel's "The Punisher," this is the winner.

		Hellboy is fine in both shots but in this scene a psychic is sensing that there was an incredible blast of energy.
		The same was done with several Hellboy scenes as he ran in and out of fog in a cemetery.
		It's still dark but we were able to bring up the luminance of Hellboy's skin which fixed most of the scenes.

		Hellboy isn't perfect, I would have changed some things, but I had fun watching it and in the end, especially for a movie of this type, I think that's what matters most.
