Evil Avatar - A new Hellboy game is being developed
The game itself was based on the character and served as a prequel story before the 2 Riddick films, not one particular film.
According to Del Toro's statement, the new game would be based on the movie verison of the comic book character the he directed in 2004.
If this game is based off of the comic moreso than the film, it'll have a better chance of being good.

News - Del Toro considers Halo film // Xbox /// Eurogamer
Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he's in talks with various parties including executive producer Peter Jackson about directing the Halo film, but that he'd ideally like to do a Hellboy sequel first.
"The ideal for me would be to do Hellboy 2 and if Halo doesn't go away, then yeah, I'd love to do both," he told British film magazine Empire.
In a recent interview with Dark Horizons, Jackson revealed that he was relatively close to directing it himself, but that fatigue from back to back Lord of the Rings and King Kong films had dissuaded him.

Home Theater Forum - 2004 Film List
I really loved the film as a character piece in which the main point for me was to watch Hellboy and Abe do stuff and use their various gadgets.
To much of the subplot characters were underdeveloped to push the film into 10 and all-time great status, but it was a very fun summer popcorn type film.
Also, in contrasting Hellboy with Jersey Girl, I'm going to back Jersey Girl back down to a 7 instead of 8.

 TNMC: Untitled Deadpool Column
If this draft fails to change too drastically before the film starts shooting, all of us Hellboy fans (and most of you non-Hellboy fans) are due for some happy theater-going times ahead.
Hellboy's reason for being is outlined and pretty much resolved in a fairly anti-climactic six pages, with too concrete an ending for my taste (and also involving a sequence a little too reminiscent of Alien: Resurrection for its own good).
Most of the Hellboy stories I have read have involved him being informed of a horrific mystery of some kind and then essentially waltzing in and solving it through magic and his gigantic stone fist, and while these make for generally entertaining reads, they would also make for decidedly one-dimensional movies.

Amazon.com: Hellboy (Director's Cut): DVD: Ron Perlman,Selma Blair
When the movie's story line concentrates on the character of Hellboy and his relationships with those important to him (the man who raised him, the girl he loves), the film becomes a unique romp, with an exciting yet vulnerable superhero at the center who just happens to be the spawn of Satan.
The complicated and ultimately senseless plot begins with Hellboy's origins (he was "born" during a Second World War Nazi occult ceremony presided over by Rasputin), then quickly focusses on the modern-day Hellboy and his adventures in fighting some doomsday monsters and the freaks that control them.
Ron Perlman plays Hellboy, who is apparently an imp from a rift in the universe that occurred as a result of tampering by the German army during WW2.

Ironic as it is, the superhero film that's made a believer out of me (or, at the very least, done the best job of making a believer out of me) is the superhero film that's being universally reviled so far by superhero fans.
No less than an hour and forty minutes of superhero nonsense at its most obtuse, mixed in with a genuine sort of fun that few of the previous superhero films have managed to capture.
The truth is, for the first time this year, and with Hellboy last year, the superhero adventurer we're being treated to doesn't feel the slightest bit pretentious, doesn't feel the slightest bit dramatic.

The film's contemporary resonance is as flabbergasting as the subtle and acute precision of its social critique.
The genius of the film's deceptively simple narrative, as written by Panahi's frequent collaborator, the great Abbas Kiarostami, is how it seamlessly evokes America's post-9/11 immigration policy in the intra-Iranian embarrassments suffered by the film's lead, a pizza deliveryman who shoots himself in the head after a botched jewel heist.
