Hellfire is definitely more of the same, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, considering that Diablo was GameSpot's 1996 Game of the Year.

During excavation of 'Hellfire Pass', the sound of the sledge hammers bashing against the steel taps would reverberate around the cutting, hence some Prisoners of War know it as 'Hammer and Tap' cutting.
This laborious method of slowly chipping through the solid rock was used to drill two inch by one metre deep holes in which explosive was later packed and detonated to prize away the rock.
Throughout the 'Hellfire Pass' cutting the rockface is still scarred by the drill holes.

 Birdwatching in Thailand; Hellfire Pass.
Although quite a number of birds can be seen as one walks along the trail, the main interest in visiting this location is historical; I include Hellfire Pass as a site which offers a chance to Limestone Wren Babbler - a species with a restricted range in Thailand.
After a little over an hour the Hellfire Pass war memorial museum can be seen on the left; there is ample car parking here.
Hellfire Pass is not a National Park and there is no entry fee to go birdwatching there.

The pass is the most infamous in a series of cuttings along the Death Railway's course, and was so named because of the gaunt shadows cast by torch light as the workers dug through the night.
Hellfire Pass took just 12 weeks to complete, the tools available were staggeringly basic; one reason why 70% of the cuttings workforce were dead by the time the job was done.

Construction of Hellfire Pass commenced with a workforce of 400 Australian prisoners.
The POWs applied the name ‘Hellfire Pass’ to the cuttings constructed during the hectic attempts to regain a falling schedule, since this requirement was achieved by the Japanese forcing the prisoners to work at night by the light of fires, which if viewed from above gave the impression of the jaws of hell.

The purpose of the project is to honor the Allied POW and Asian conscripts who died while constructing some of the most difficult stretches of the Burma-Thailand death railway, 80km northwest of Kanchanaburi.
'Hellfire Pass' was the name the POWs gave to the largest of a 1000m series of mountain cuttings through soil and solid rock, which were accomplished with minimal equipment.
At the far end of the cutting is a memorial plaque fasten to solid stone, commemorating the death of the Allied prisoners.

Perhaps the greatest display of Japanese brutality during the 14 months of the railway's construction came at Hellfire Pass, where about 1,000 Australian and British POWs had to cut through 533 meters (583 yards) of sheer rock to a depth of up to 20 meters (65 feet) with only primitive tools during torrential monsoon rains.
Near them were three young Australians from their community, coming to hear their stories and see them in the place of their tragedy and triumph for perhaps the last time.
