Helston (Cornish: Hellys or Henlys) is a small town in Cornwall, UK, at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula.
Helston is situated along the banks of the river Cober in Cornwall.
Helston was one of the ancient coinage towns where tin ingots were assayed and stamped to assess the duty to be paid to the Duke of Cornwall.

During this process a corner or "coign" was cut off to be assayed for quality.
In early times Helston was a thriving port at the head of the Cober estuary but from the 13th C onwards, the estuary began to silt up and a great shingle bank "The Loe Bar" was formed at the mouth of the estuary making the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall.
The estates round this lake are part owned by The National Trust and there are delightful walks to be taken in this area.

The population falling within the Union at the 1831 census had been 29,177 — ranging from Ruan Major (population 162) to Crowan (4,332) and Helston itself (3,293).

In 1972 the new Helston/Kerrier Youth Centre, on the Campus of Helston Comprehensive School, had its first Qualified Full-time Youth & Community Officer (Roland Holton an ex C.P.O. in the Navy) who was also on the P.E. staff in the school.
This was developed and soon the girls were using the school equipment and the gymnasium in the evenings and Roland and Muriel Holton had to develop their coaching skills going as far afield as North Devon for their first ever course, and the girls were then beginning to look for competition within the County.
They asked if they could have a name and chose “The Swallows of Helston” and decided they would like the Club Colours to be Purple and White.

Kincaid Helston MacMillan was born June 24, 1552 (Mun year 2001) to Kerrinne Lynne MacMillan and Larook Helston.
He took the demonic Kincaid, now known as Kincaid Helston, to House Helston where he lives to this day.
