Considering the difficulty a record with essentially two tracks can present in programming terms, Helter Stupid's initial impact on non-commecial radio is mind-boggling.
The irony found here is funny yet forboding, a point that hasn't been lost at College radio, where the album is at number one.

A gonzo teenage rock ’n’ roll anthem in the great timeless tradition, it finds our young heroes from Wakefield in a ‘wall of shouts’ kind of mood, wringing the neck of a classic 12 bar blues progression with the kind of glee that is priceless.
Stupid Ones’ simultaneously recalls Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock & Roll’, ‘Helter Skelter’ by The Beatles, and ‘Surfin’ Bird’ as rendered by the Ramones, making a passing nod to the great Phil Spector/’End of the Century’ face-off, before cranking the amps up further and threatening to take the roof off the joint.
It’s three minutes of pop mayhem delivered with The Blueskins’ customary swagger, and it’s sure to be one of the great singles of the year.

Lacking a strong, charismatic bass player for some time, the band received a call from a certain David Ma who, despite his 'interesting' personality, was just what the band needed to take them to the next level.
By this time, Helter Skelter was actively looking for live gigs and it was then that the ever humorous prankster, Mike, decided it was time to leave the group to perfect his stand-up comedy routine.
This incarnation of the band has proven to be the most solid and mature line-up in Helter Skelter's brief but eventful history, and the band gels together well in live performances due to the experience, communication and camaraderie of the band members.

As inspired propagandists coming to terms with an ability to manipulate the truth, Negativland shifted their mindfuck campaign to a higher plane with Helter Stupid, turning Escape From Noise 's "Christianity Is Stupid" into a full-fledged prank that backfired into a success beyond their wildest dreams.
Wielding a hoax press release as its weapon, Negativland implied that the song might have been responsible for inspiring the murder of a Minnesota family, and that was all it took.
The liner notes of Helter Stupid detail the stunt's chronology and aftermath, clearly acknowledging the "electronic environment of factual fictions" of their undertaking.

After the relative success of 1987's Escape From Noise album, studio project Negativland found itself in the strange position of being expected to go on a money-losing tour.
