In 1986, she co-founded the Portland-based Oregon Peace Institute, establishing a mission to develop and disseminate conflict resolution curriculum in Oregon schools.

The Helvetia silt loam is a deep, moderately well drained soil that formed in mixed old alluvium on ridges and hillsides.
The study area is bounded by Newell Creek to the east, undeveloped residential land (forested) to the north, commercial and industrial land to the south, and residential land to the west.
The Helvetia series is classified as Ultic Argixerolls, which means it is a moderately weathered soil, has a dark colored topsoil, and a more clayey subsoil that formed under moist, cool winters and warm, dry summers.

Helvetia story begins when Swiss and German immigrants began settling in Oregon's Tualatin Valley in the late 1870s.
Helvetia is the name the Romans gave the region now known as Switzerland.
Because of the distance it was decided in 1898 to erect two houses of worship, one at Phillips on the land donated by John Kunrath, and another at Helvetia on land bought from Christian Lauber.

By 1838, Sutter had determined that Mexican California held the promise of fulfilling his ambitious dreams, and he set off along the Oregon Trail, arriving at Fort Vancouver, near present-day Portland, Oregon, in hopes of finding a ship that would take him to San Francisco Bay.
His journey involved detours to the Hawaiian Islands and to a Russian colony at Sitka, Alaska, but Sutter made the most of his wanderings by trading advantageously along the way.
He spent the rest of his life seeking compensation for his losses from the state and federal governments, and died disappointed on a trip to Washington, D.C. in 1880.

Charles Bennett came to Oregon with Nataniel Ford wagon train traveling from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1844.
In 1848, the gold rush began with the discovery of gold there; Bennett and his friends always claimed that he was first to recognize the treasure, although credit for the discovery went to Sutter.
Shortly thereafter, Bennett returned to Oregon where he continued his career as a carpenter, builder of the Bennett House (1850), co-builder of the river steamer Canamah (1851), and contractor for the foundations of the first capitol (1854).

Not that it's that big of a deal, but Helvetia is the only one of these give out a real medal.
The scenery is better, the support is great and its kinda cool running the finish on the field in the stadium - the squishy astro-turf feels like a relief after all of that asphalt.
I'm from CT and will be in Oregon for a couple of days in mid July arriving in the afternoon day listed leaving mid-morning next day
