 MySA.com: Paula Allen
By German sculptor Guss W. Fussell, the statue "was exhibited at HemisFair ('68) along with (works by) 116 artists from 29 nations," says the "Self-Guided Tour of Sculpture in Downtown San Antonio," a brochure published in 1994 by the city's Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
After HemisFair, the statue was moved to the corner of Alamo and Market streets, across from the Hilton Palacio del Rio hotel, says Park Projects Manager Scott Stover.
The bear crossed the street again in May 1992, when it was moved back to HemisFair Park for the visit that month of West German President Richard von Weizsaecker.

HemisFair, which opened in the spring of 1968 with an announced start-up cost of $156 million, was financially troubled from the beginning.
