Elder Samuel J. Raymond, representing the branch at Hempstead, L. I., stated that it was organized on the first of August 1839 by Elder Selah Lane The number received into that branch is sixty-three; one having died, and sixteen having moved away, the present number is forty-six.
Reports of delegates being called for, Elder Foster reported that the whole number of persons who had been received into the branch at New York was two hundred and ninety-two, of which two hundred and seventy-nine were received by baptism and confirmation, and thirteen by certificate.
Elder N. James, stated that there were at Elizabethtown, N. six members-that he intended to continue his labors there, and hoped to raise up a branch there, although there was at present much opposition.

 Mineola to West Hempstead
When the present West Hempstead branch was built in 1893, the Central's ROW was moved to the present Hempstead branch ROW and a connection was made at Country Life Press with the West Hempstead branch.
In 1872, the Central RR built its line to Hempstead, which branched off southward from its Flushing to Bethpage main line several blocks east (of course, there were no "blocks" back then, it was all open space!) of the LIRR's line.
The Hempstead branch goes off to the left while the ROW to West Hempstead goes off to the right.

He was twice married, his first wife being Mary WASHBURNE, by whom he had two sons, Thomas and Jacob, the latter being the father of the famous Quaker preacher, Elias HICKS, the founder of that branch of the Society of Friends known to this day as HICKS ites.
His sons John and Stephen in 1642 joined an English company which acquired by patent an extensive tract of land about Hempstead and Flushing, Long Island.
He was educated at Oxford, and was a man of intelligence and natural force of character, and therefore soon became a leader in the youthful colony, and took an active part in public affairs, his name appearing in nearly all the important transactions of the time.

Yet again, in 1662, in a sale of land by Robert to Robert Forman of Oyster Bay, he lists his residence as of Hempstead.
From his marriage to Sarah he had seven children: Hope, John, who married Leah Townsend (The Jericho Seamans stem from this branch of the family); Mary, who married John Dole of Philadelphia; Phebe, who married John Townsend of Oyster Bay; Patience, who married a Barnes; Esther, who married John Champion of Westbury.
And again, he is mentioned on December 13, 1660 when Daniel Whitehead sells to Alexander Bryant a house and land previously purchased from Robert Williams of Oyster Bay.

For many years, Hemel Hempstead station was almost a junction - a railway embankment on the south (down) side of the station led to the end of the Nicky Line, a branch line through the town centre to Harpenden.
Hemel Hempstead railway station is on the West Coast main line, on the western edge of Hemel Hempstead, in an area called Boxmoor.
The back entrance to Hemel Hempstead Station, which has been used by the local community for as long as anyone can remember, is currently threatened with closure by the Silverlink management, which will cause great inconvenience to many rail users.

The Nicky Line ran from Hemel Hempstead to Harpenden, and was a branch line of the Midland Railway.
In 1968 the line was sold to the Hemelite Company, who used it to transport ash from power stations to Cupid Green for the manufacture of building blocks.
The importance of the area in the Roman times hinged on the fact that it was near to the city of Verulamium (St. Albans).

The study of the Midland Main Line out of St Pancras Station takes another step forward with this book which covers the stretch of track between St.Albans and Bedford and includes the branch line from Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead.
Geoff Gosling starts the book with historical notes about both the main line and the branch.
Another table gives the number of trains that called at both St Albans and Bedford at eight times between 1969 and 1999.

The branch line was eight miles long with sidings at Redbourn, Hemelite Company Cupid Green (formerly Claydales Brickworks), Godwins Halt, Hemel Hempstead (Midland), Cotterells Sidings and Hemel Hempstead Gas Works.
In 1959 the track between Cupid Green (near Godwins Halt) and the Hemel Hempstead Gas Works (near Heath Park Halt) was lifted and the viaduct across Marlowes in Hemel Hempstead removed to allow expansion of the town centre and the building of a large roundabout.
A temporary connection was made between the Gas Works and Hemel Hempstead and Boxmoor Station to allow coal to be delivered to the Gas Works until it finally closed in 1960.

In 1838 they surveyed a branch line in pursuance of this act of the Legislature, which was subsequently built, and known as the Hempstead branch, running from what is now Mineola to the village of Hempstead, a part of which track is still in use, as will be hereafter more fully explained.
The road from Valley Stream to Hempstead was mortgaged, and the bondholders foreclosed that mortgage, but were never able to dispose of the line of road between Valley Stream and Hempstead, and it has been abandoned to the present date.
The line of this road was located from the Bridge street station, in the village o£ Flushing, to Woodside, on the line of the Long Island Railroad, the intention being to have a through line from Hunter's Point to Flushing over this route.

The LIRR's line was abandoned from Garden City to Hempstead in 1878, and when a new line (the present West Hempstead Branch) was built in 1893 northward from Valley Stream, the Central's line was moved to the present ROW so that a connection could be made between the two at Country Life Press.
The first, in 1869, was the South Side's, from Jamaica along the present Altantic branch (via the Locust Manor and Laurelton stations) to Valley Stream, then over the present ROW to Far Rockaway.
This line was abandoned in 1869 when a new route through Woodside, parallelling the existing LIRR line, was built by the Flushing and North Side RR.

Tony McWalter then asked about problems when PD patients are admitted to hospital for other medical problems and he heard distressing accounts of how Parkinson's medication, which has to be taken at specific times, is withheld to conform with hospital routine mainly through ignorance of PD.
