Though he was introduced to folk music as a boy in Brantford, his interest was stimulated by exposure to the folksongs of Newfoundland, where he was stationed during World War II, as well as by the music of Burl Ives.
Hemsworth also is known for 'The Wild Goose,' 'Foolish You,' and 'The Story of the I'm Alone,' among other songs.
Though Hemsworth seldom appeared in public, he sang at the 1963 Mariposa Folk Festival and in the 1960s performed for the McGill University Folk Song Society and, with the Mountain City Four or alone, at Bishop's University.

Wade Hemsworth, who was a career draftsman for Canadian National Railway Co., once explained: "I build bridges with a slide rule and paper and pencil." But after office hours, he crafted brilliant folk songs about life in the Canadian North that will likely prove as durable as any bridge he ever helped create.
Hemsworth died recently in Montreal at the age of 85, leaving a legacy of 16 songs.
Hemsworth moved to Montreal in the early 1950s and began working for CN by day and writing songs such as The Wild Goose, The Blackfly Song and Foolish You in the evenings.

HEMSWORTH, West Yorkshire - is situated almost equal distance from Pontefract, Barnsley and Wakefield on the junction of the A628 (Pontefract/Barnsley) and the A638 (Doncaster/Wakefield) roads.
