Henri was the son of Charles Ferdinand, duc de Berry and of his wife Princess Maria Carolina of the Two Sicilies, daughter of Francis I of the Two Sicilies.
In November 1846 Henri married Archduchess Marie Therese of Austria-Este, daughter of Duke Francis IV of Modena and Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy.
At his death, Henri's wife and some of his supporters believed that he was succeeded as rightful king of France and Navarre by his distant cousin the Infante Juan of Spain, conde de Montizon (the senior male of the House of Bourbon).

Henri's father Alfred was a cooper by trade and in 1922, the proprietor of Chateau Saint Pierre, one colourfully titled Colonel Kappelhof asked him to become his maitre de chai and later manager of the estate.
He was joined by his son Henri and together they invested their small savings in a chai and some vines near a barrel-making factory.

Sauguet was born Henri Pierre Poupard in Bordeaux in 1901, only later taking his mother's maiden name as his surname on the insistence of his father, who feared that his family name be besmirched by association with avant-garde musical antics.
For the young Henri, the organ was the main medium through which he heard music: he was bowled over by the music of Debussy despite having heard it only on the organ, an instrument for which it could not be less suited.
The final member of the group is today perhaps the most obscure: Henri Clicquet-Pleyel, who was born in 1894 and died in 1963, a bad year for French culture since it also saw the deaths of Jean Cocteau, Roger Desormiere, Francis Poulenc and Edith Piaf.

The Castelains, owners of Chateau St Pierre up to 1982, originated from Belgian and as a consequence much of the wine was exported to that country.
In 1982, however, it was purchased by Henri Martin.
Since the involvement of Henri Martin I think there has been a tangible improvement in quality, which has been continued by his son, Jean-Louis Triaud, after Martin's death.
