  MOONSORROW - HENRY SORVALI
HENRI: The story of Moonsorrow began in autumn 1995 when I and Ville decided to create a band singing about old times and hedonism in general, drawing musical inspiration from such creations as the first Enslaved mini LP or the first Ulver album.
HENRI: The language of the lyrics is not so important, but the message is. However, when we started the band we wrote (for it was me who was responsible for the lyrics back then) all the lyrics in English.
HENRI: The lyrics of Moonsorrow are inspired by paganism in general, be it historical events such as great battles against the crusaders, Nature, Gods or the "good old times" and everything related to the topic under Hedonism.

I am Henri Urponpoika Sorvali, I'm 21 years old (I was born in 1978) and I'm the guitarist/synth player of the mightiest band on the great Earth; Moonsorrow.
[Henri] - All of our material except for the album have been recorded in different home studios and thus there haven't been any crucial expenses to pay for, if we don't count buying new guitar strings or drum sticks etc. to be a major loss.
[Henri] - I started to take piano lessons when I was only four years old (!) and after playing classical music for ten years I switched to jazz in the process, which I have now studied for over eight years.

Crimson Dawn - Interview with Henri Sorvali [Moonsorrow] 16.12.2002
Henri: For me, the inspiration came pretty much from "older" records this time, as I was basically only listening to classical film scores, Richard Wagner's various works as well as Rick Wakeman's solo albums and old Folk music.
Henri: The cover art was made by a certain group who are specialized on that certain kind of ancient art.
Henri: A video would be nice, but as our songs are not the shortest around, it would pretty frustrating to edit the songs to last for 4-5 minutes, as they tend to lose their musical meaning then in my opinion.

 MOONSORROW
Moonsorrow was formed in autumn 1995 by cousins Henri and Ville Sorvali who desired to expand their musical expression onto a more profound level.
The official debut of Moonsorrow was realized in winter 1997 from two new songs which Henri had already arranged to their final.
Both recording and mixing were done in a day, and considering the used time the result was surprisingly good.

If chroniclers were to write a saga about Moonsorrow, they would start from 1995, when the cousins Sorvali – Ville the son of Seppo and Henri the son of Urpo – got themselves as true-vikings are decided to play folk-music in epic-metal style.
It was the only release of theirs written in English, since that time the cousins Sorvali have written lyrics only in Finnish.
The Sorvalis and the drummer Marko Tarvonen created their debut long-play "Suden Uni" ("Wolf's Dream").

Transcending the Mundane: Review of 'Verisakeet' by Moonsorrow
Ville Sorvali's vocals on here are mostly blistering screams, sounding as if his throat were bleeding from his intesity.
The keyboards are kept a little more to minimum, Henri is using more acoustic folk instruments on here, but there are also many uses of keyboards, which as always are perfect.
The more stripped down production helps to display just how good the members are, as it is easier to hear the guitars, bass and drums on here, as they aren't lost in the background to the melodies of the keyboards and voices as often before.

Moonsorrow was formed in autumn 1995 by cousins Henri and Ville Sorvali who desired to expand their musical expression into a more profound level.
Right after "Metsä" Moonsorrow recorded also a two-song promotape that was supposed to mark the direction of their musical development.
Formed in 1995 by two cousins (the Sorvalis), Moonsorrow appeared to come out of nowhere in 2001 with no less than three releases, though in actuality their debut had been recorded over a year earlier and the second release (Tama Ikuinen Talvi) is a remixed version of an earlier demo.

Encyclopaedia Metallum - Reviews for Moonsorrow - Verisäkeet
Henri and Ville Sorvali have done the impossible.
They have built a time machine, took all their instruments and travelled back to Norway, in the beginning of the 90’s and recorded their music using the icy cold atmosphere that bands like Satyricon and Enslaved (and Dark Throne, I did not forget) created, blending it with their own personal touch of Viking metal.
Henri Sorvali has always tried to separate Finntroll and Moonsorrow, and has done a pretty good job, but this part could be on any Finntroll EP any day of the week.

Moonsorrow - Free Music Downloads, Videos, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Formed in 1995 by cousins Henri (guitar/keyboards/vocals) and Ville Sorvali (bass/vocals), Finland's Moonsorrow traced a path similar to that blazed by their countrymen Amorphis by combining death and fl metal with heavy doses of atmosphere and Finnish folk traditions; but theirs was arguably an even more ambitious and epic approach.
Their best effort yet, the album solidified the group's standing as top purveyors of Scandinavian fantasy metal and set the stage for another highly regarded opus in the shape of 2003's acclaimed Kivenkantaja ("Stonebearer"), as well as Spikefarm's reissue of their Suden Uni debut.
Of note, since 1999 Henri Sorvali has also doubled as the keyboard player for fellow Finnish fantasy freaks (try saying that real fast) Finntroll.
