Meanwhile, President Henrique Rosa has hinted that he will agree to the mutineers' demands that he appoint General Tagme Na Wai, as chief of staff of the armed forces to replace General Verissimo Seabra Correia, who was shot dead by the insurgents three weeks ago.
President Rosa told reporters last Thursday that the mutineers had asked him to name Na Wai as the new chief of staff of the armed forces, since he was the only figure of authority who was trusted by the army.
Rosa was chosen as transitional head of state by the armed forces and the country's main political parties following last year's coup, which deposed former president Kumba Yala, the founder of the PRS, which is now in opposition.

BISSAU, 29 Sep 2003 (IRIN) - The military junta that seized power in Guinea-Bissau on 14 September have sworn in businessman Henrique Rosa at a hotel in the capital, Bissau, to lead an interim civilian administration until fresh presidential elections can be held within one year.
Before swearing in Henrique Rosa late on Sunday, the junta signed an agreement along with 22 other political and civil society groups, setting up a 56-member National Transition Council to serve in place of a parliament until legislative elections are held after six months.
Henrique Rosa was head of the National Electoral Commission during Guinea-Bissau's first multi-party elections in 1994.

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Henrique Perreira Rosa, today appealed to the United Nations Security Council to help his West African country pay its civil servants the salaries owed them and assist his transitional government in preparing peaceful elections.

Bissau: Guinea-Bissau will hold presidential polls on June 19, prolonging by a month a transition period meant to shepherd it back to democracy two years after a coup, its interim leader has confirmed.
"Due to technical reasons, the elections will not be able to take place in May, as laid out in the Transition Charter," interim President Henrique Rosa said in a statement broadcast on state radio, it was reported yesterday.
