GEORGE BRADSHAW (1801-1853), English printer and publisher, was born at Windsor Bridge, Pendleton, Lancashire, on the 29th of July 1801.
His name was already known as the publisher of Bradshaw's Maps of Inland Navigation, when in 1839, soon after the introduction of railways, he published, at sixpence, Bradshaw's Railway Time Tables, the title being changed in 1840 to Bradshaw's Railway Companion, and the price raised to one shilling.
Bradshaw, who was a well-known member of the Society of Friends, and gave considerable time to philanthropic work, died in 1853.

Henry Bradshaw (scholar) - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
Henry Bradshaw (February 2 1831 - February 10 1886) was a British scholar and librarian born in London and educated at Eton.
Bradshaw exposed the absurdity of these claims in a letter to the Guardian (January 26 1863).
Unfortunately Bradshaw allowed his attention to be distracted by a multiplicity of subjects, so that he has not left any literary work commensurate with his powers.

Bradshaw died in 1513: and his poem was printed by Pynson eight years later.
In prosody it is one of the most remarkable documents as to the complete loss of grip which had come upon English verse.
It has been charitably suggested that, in place of Chaucerian decasyllable, Bradshaw retains the “old popular long line,” whatever that may be.

This second work, in English verse, includes the "Foundation of the City of Chester" and the "Chronicle of the Kings"; it fixes the year of Bradshaw's death by a poem addressed to him, was printed by Pinson in 1521, and re-edited by E. Hawkins for the Chetham Society, 1848.
The poet followed mainly a Latin work then in the library of St. Werburgh, called "The True or Third Passionary", by an author whose name was unknown to Bradshaw.
His work, written not for the learned, but for the ruder classes, has been variously appraised by critics.

 Boydell & Brewer Ltd
Partial mailing for subs in Jan. The Henry Bradshaw Society was established in 1890 in commemoration of Henry Bradshaw, University Librarian in Cambridge and a distinguished authority on early medieval manuscripts and liturgies, who died in 1886.
The Society was founded `for the editing of rare liturgical texts'; its principal focus is on the Western (Latin) Church and its rites, and on the medieval period in particular, from the sixth century to the sixteenth (in effect, from the earliest surviving Christian books until the Reformation).
Study of medieval Christianity - at the heart of Western society - inevitably involves study of its rites, and the society's publications are essential to an understanding of all aspects (historical, ecclesiastical, spiritual, sociological) of the middle ages.
