His father, Henry Lyon Davis, was a clergyman in the Protestant Episcopal Church, the president of St. John's College, at Annapolis, and rector of St. Ann's parish.
There is some confusion that he may have been the same person as Henry Davis Minot, but the relative obscurity of the issue has not aided research.
