 Castle Durrow
Formerly the home of the Flower family, Barons Castle Durrow and Viscounts Ashbrook, it was built in the early 18th century (1712 — 1715) when domestic architecture in Ireland was developing an independence of the need for defense and economy that had characterized earlier construction.
Colonel William Flower commenced with the construction of the Manor in 1712.
He is succeeded by his son, Llowrach, 9th Viscount Ashbrook, known locally as "Lowey" who was the last of the Ashbrook family to reside in Castle Durrow.

He was Sheriff of Northamptonshire in 1601 and reputed to be the wealthiest man in England at the succession of James I. He died on 25 October 1627 and is buried at Brington, Northamptonshire, having married Margaret, daughter of Sir Francis Willoughby of Wallaton, Northants, who died on 17th August 1597.
He was married to Penelope, daughter of Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, who had been politically supported by Robert in the past; she died in 1667.
She was the daughter of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester and Dorothy, daughter of Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland and Dorothy De~reux (the latter being the widow of Sir John Perrot, ancestor of the author).

In 1875 this house was demolished to accommodate the wish of the successful contractor Sir John Kelk for a house of his own in the Square, which he was willing to further by paying £15,000 for some nineteen years of the subsisting lease.

In 1885 the occupant was refused a lease in reversion from 1910 because, in the estate surveyor's opinion, 'the house is not a good one', and in 1893 an incoming tenant, Colonel Ralph Vivian, who was to occupy it until 1924, laid out £12,000 upon it—mostly, it was said later, in structural repairs.

A St. Finnche or Fuinche, virgin, surnamed Garbh, was commemorated at Ros-airthir, in Loch Erne, on Jan. 1st; another St. Fainche or Finche, virgin, is mentioned in the Martyrology of Donegal on Jan 25th and another St. Fainche, virgin, was venerated at Clonkeen, in the Eoghanacht of Cashel, on Jany.

She was the daughter of Sir Henry Charles Somerset, 6th Duke of Beaufort and Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower.
Cumloden House to the north was built in 1875 for Sir William Stewart and became a summer retreat for the Earls of Galloway and to the east in the grounds of Kirroughtree House Hotel (1719) stand an ice house and an octagonal dovecote.
Randolph Henry Stewart was born in 1836 and served in the Black Watch (the Royal Highland Regiment in the British army), the 42nd Royal Highlanders during the Crimea and the Indian Mutiny.
