Britannia Biographies: Henry Plantagenet of Grosmont, Duke of Lancaster
Henry's first military essay appears to have been in the Scottish expedition in 1336, in which he manifested proofs of valour and martial skill, which obtained for him in the following year, as "Henry de Lancaster, Banneret," the appointment of Captain-General of the King's forces in Scotland, with extra-ordinary powers.
In 1342, Henry accompanied Edward on his expedition into Brittany, having in his retinue five bannerets, fifty knights, with a proportional number of esquires and archers; and, during the Siege of Vannes, was constituted one of the commissioners to conclude a truce for three years.
In this document the accusation of Duke Henry is declared to be false, and he is invited to prove it, corps-à-corps, in the castle of Guisnes, at St. Omer, or wherever else the King of France should think fit to appoint.

Henry of Champagne started out as a supporter of Philip, but, according to Richard of Devizes, transferred his allegiance because Richard-the-Lion-Hearted lent him money on more favorable terms than Philip.
Minstrel's strategy is to send Henry II on an expedition he never made, to Gerberoi, in the course of which the English king receives a surprise visit by Philip Augustus.
Two elements in the Minstrel's version of the deaths of Henry II and his son ‑‑ the charge that Henry II was sexually involved with Alix, and the rage and anger that accompanied the deaths of both the Young King and his father correspond to what can be found in the chronicles.

Also Geoffrey, earl of Anjou, when seneschal of France, had carnally known queen Eleanor; of which, as it is said, he frequently forewarned his son Henry, cautioning and forbidding him in any wise to touch her, both because she was the wife of his lord, and because she had been known by his own father.
As it were to crown all these enormities, which were already too enormous, king Henry, as common report declared, dared by an adulterous intercourse to defile this so-called queen of France, and so took her away from her own husband, end actually married her himself.
