  Henry Peel Ritchie (1879 - 1958) - Find A Grave Memorial
Ritchie was awarded the VC for leading a raid on the harbor of Dar-es-Salaam in German East Africa (now Tanzania), November 28, 1914.
Ritchie was wounded eight times by the time his boat had cleared the harbor mouth and spent six weeks recuperating in a hospital in Zanzibar.
Ritchie retired from the Navy in 1917 with the rank of acting captain, and was promoted to full captain on the retired list in 1924.

In September 1914, Goliath was dispatched to the East Indies for escort duty against German warships in the area.
In November 1914 she took part in the blockade operation against the SMS Konigsberg in the Rufiji River during which crew-member Commander Henry Peel Ritchie won the Victoria Cross.
Commanded by Captain Thomas Lawrie Shelford, Goliath was part of the Allied fleet during naval operations in the Dardanelles Campaign, supporting the landing at X Beach during the landing at Cape Helles on 25 April 1915.

 Henry Peel Ritchie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Henry Peel Ritchie (January 29, 1879 - December 9, 1958) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
He was 38 years old, and a Commander in the Royal Navy during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.
On 28 November 1914 Commander Ritchie of HMS Goliath was in command of the searching and demolition operations at Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika (now Tanzania).

 Arkansas Confederate Infantry Regiments
Before its completion as a regiment, six companies were sent to the defense of Fort Henry on the Tennessee River where they were part of the garrison when a fleet of gunboats and Grant's federal Army of the Tennessee attacked.
Fort Henry being nearly flooded, the infantry regiments in the garrison (including the 15th Arkansas) were sent overland to reinforce neighboring Fort Donelson on the Cumberland River while the heavy artillery batteries fought it out with the gunboats to cover their movement.
The 20th Arkansas was initially organized as the 22nd Arkansas Infantry in February, 1862 under the command of Colonel Henry P. Johnson.

The Ritchie Family are one of those groups whose songs you may have probably heard but are unfamiliar with who actually performed them, take The Best Disco in Town, Give Me A Break or African Queens as examples.

Commander RABY and two other men, Captain of the Forecastle John Taylor and Boatswain's Mate Henry CURTIS, climbed over the breastwork, all three then proceeding the 70 yards across the open space, all the time under continuous heavy fire from the enemy, making their way towards the salient angle of the Redan.
To the North of Beaumont Hamel, France, on 1st July 1916, Drummer Ritchie, under heavy machine gun fire and bombs, continually sounded the "Charge" whilst standing on the parapet of an enemy trench.
This served to rally many men of the various units who, having lost their commanders, were wavering and wanting to retire from the fighting.
