Henry Rutgers (October 7, 1745 in New York City, New York, United States of America – February 17, 1830 in New York City, New York, United States of America) was a United States Revolutionary War hero and philanthropist from New York.
Born in 1745, Henry Rutgers was the son of Hendrick Rutgers and Catharine DePeyster.
Rutgers donated a bond valued at $5,000 to reopen the faltering school, and subsequently donated a bronze bell that was hung in the cupola of the Old Queens building which housed the college.

 Henry Rutgers Scholars Program: FAQs
To qualify, the student must be entering the senior year at Rutgers College and have a cumulative average of 3.4 (in the major and overall) at the second semester of the junior year.
Students may not receive a credit override to participate in the Henry Rutgers program, because additional coursework detracts from research pursuits: the maximum number of credits in which a student may be enrolled during a Henry Rutgers semester, including the 6 credits for the Henry Rutgers Scholars program, is 20.
Several departments require that Henry Rutgers students also register for their departmental honors research course in order to be eligible for departmental honors.

 Henry Rutgers Scholars Program: Home
Each Henry Rutgers Scholar works with a faculty advisor on a two-semester, 12-credit independent research project, which culminates in a written thesis and an oral defense before a faculty committee.
The research that students pursue in the Program is key to their intellectual formation and pre-professional preparation, and is the stepping stone to some of the finest graduate, law, business and medical schools in the nation.
The measure of the success of the Program is the high number of Henry Rutgers Scholars who go on to graduate or professional study.

 Henry Rutgers
RUTGERS, Henry, patriot, born in New York city 7 October, 1745; died there, 17 February, 1830.
He was graduated at Columbia in 1766, served as a captain in the American army at the battle of White Plains, and subsequently was a colonel of New York militia.
Colonel Rutgers was a member of the New York legislature in 1784, and was frequently re-elected.
