Henry Middleton was born in South Carolina in 1717 and died in Charleston, on June 13, 1784.
Henry Middleton was chosen the leader of the South Carolina delegation being the most conser­vative delegate and vociferously loyal to the King.
Henry Middleton, was forgiven by his fellow founders as his call to sup­port England was half-hearted in 1780 and not followed by any action against his fellow countrymen.

Henry was appointed in 1768 one of the assistant justices of the court of common pleas, and represented Orange county in the New York general assembly in 1759-'69.
For that measure Wisner voted, and he was the only New York delegate who acquired that honor, but before the Declaration was engrossed on parchment and ready for signing, he went to New York to attend the Provincial congress, of which he had been elected a member.
He studied the art of making gunpowder and erected three powder-mills in the neighborhood of Goshen, from which large quantities of powder were supplied to the Revolutionary army.

He was descended from an ancient and honorable family, being the eldest son of Jeffery Wisner, a respectable farmer of Warwick, who was a son of General Henry Wisner, of the same town.
General Wisner was in public life from 1759 to 1788, filling important positions and making an extensive acquaintance with the most eminent public men of that day.
Soon after these political campaigns, necessarily excited and laborious, the health of Judge Wisner began visibly to decline, and although at intervals nature seemed to rally, it was clearly perceptible to his friends that he must, at a period not far distant, succumb to the King of Terrors.

Chairman reported, that Charles Pinckney, Henry Middleton, Richard Richardson, Rawlins Lowndes, Le Roy Hammond, Henry Lau-rens, David Oliphant, Thomas Ferguson, Stephen Bull, George Gabriel Powell, Thomas Bee, Joseph Kershaw, and Thomas Shubrick, Esquires, were duly chosen Members of the Legislative Council.
Henry twice remarried, but his five sons and seven daughters were all children borne of his first wife, who died in 1761.

He was the grandson of the first Daniel Burt who came from Ridgefield, CT in 1746 and settled on a farm in Warwick, later moving to Bellvale.
Henry was then in Ohio having gone with his family to visit his father-in-law and other friends there.
