Bishop Henryk Muszyñski: An appropriate official document from the Conference of the Polish Episcopate on relations with the Jews, modeled after those issued by other episcopates in France, Belgium or Austria, not to speak of the German documents, is not only desirable, but downright necessary.
Bishop Henryk Muszyñski: Romans 10–11 does indeed constitute the basis not only for the Council teaching that the Jews may not be presented as rejected or cursed by God, but also the foundation of St. Paul’s theological teaching about the temporary obstinacy and ultimate salvation of Israel.

In 1992 Pope John Paul II reorganized the Polish hierarchy and the city once again had a separate bishop.
Cardinal Jozef Glemp, who had been archbishop of Gniezno and Warsaw and retained Warsaw, was designated to remain Primate until his retirement, but afterward the Archbishop of Gniezno, at present Henryk Muszynski, would again be Primate of Poland.

The debate was triggered by a senior official of the governing SLD party, Marek Dyduch, who said in a newspaper interview last week that the party would work to liberalise Poland's abortion law would begin after next year's referendum on EU entry.
In response, Polish Archbishop and Episcopal representative in the European Communities Henryk Muszynski said on Monday that the Church would demand a clause on abortion in the accession treaty.
One of the other nine countries set to join the EU in 2004, Malta, negotiated a clause safeguarding its ban on abortion during the talks on its membership application, concluded at the Copenhagen summit earlier this month.

Muszynski is also seen as part of the reform wing of the Polish church, and is especially known for his interest in Christian-Jewish dialogue; he bucked Polish Catholic traditionalists by opposing the erecting of crosses at Auschwitz in 1998.

With the late Cardinal Bernardin and Spertus College in Chicago, he organized, in the summer of 1988, a six-week visit to Chicago for priests, professors and seminarians from each diocese in Poland.

In addition, through Rabbi Rudin's efforts, an annual exchange program, begun in 1993, has brought Polish Catholic scholars to the United States to lecture at rabbinical schools and other institutions of higher learning.
