Hepatitis C, Liver Cancer / Hepatocellular Carcinoma, HCC
It was recognized a number of years ago that chronic carriers of the Hepatitis B virus, particularly those with chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis, are at substantially increased risk to develop hepatocellular carcinoma.
Recent evidence indicates that patients who have long-standing chronic Hepatitis C virus infection are also at increased risk for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, although the exact risk is uncertain.
Primary liver cancer may be detected by screening high risk patients or by chance on an imaging study of the abdomen performed for another reason, or it may be detected because of symptoms such as abdominal pain.

Chronic HBV infection with persistence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) occurs in 90% of infants infected by perinatal transmission, in 30% of children 1–5 years of age infected after birth, and in 5%–10% of older children, adolescents and adults with HBV infection.
Chronically infected individuals are at high risk of developing chronic liver disease, such as cirrhosis, chronic active hepatitis or chronic persistent hepatitis, or primary hepatocellular carcinoma later in life [2].
At the same time, a high incidence of primary heptocellular carcinoma was reported in the country, especially in Gizan where the prevalence of HBsAg carrier status was high [10,11].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the blood supply of low density viable area of primary heptocellular carcinoma after transcatheter hepatic artery chemoembolization using lipiodol (LP-TACE), by helical dual-phase CT scanning and three dimensional CT (3DCT).
METHODS: Thirty-four patients with primary heptocellular carcinoma after LP-TACE were examined by hepatic helical dual-phase CT. 3DCT model of the maximum intensity projection (MIP), surface shaded display (SSD) reconstruction of the hepatic artery and portal vein were simultaneously done in 5 cases.
In 5 cases, the relation between the viable tumor area and branches of hepatic artery and portal vein was showed by MIP and SSD of hepatic artery and portal vein.
