Fearful that Turkey might demand the return of Bosnia and Hercegovina after a revolutionary government was established in Constantinople, Austria-Hungary precipitated a major European crisis by annexing the regions in October 1908.

 BOSNIA AND HERCEGOVINA: BEYOND RESTRAINT
This is a critical moment for the U.N. mission in Bosnia and Hercegovina because of the confluence of at least two factors: first, there are still numerous human rights abusers and alleged war criminals in the police force, whose continuing influence prevents the development of democratic policing in Bosnia and Hercegovina.
Under these terms, the IPTF was to have its headquarters in Sarajevo, with stations throughout Bosnia and Hercegovina, to be headed by a commissioner appointed by the secretary-general, and to be composed of 1,721 monitors provided by member states.
One of the primary tasks of the IPTF in Bosnia and Hercegovina is to assist in the creation of a democratic police force before the international community leaves, capable of creating a sense of security among its citizens.

Since the number of records retrieved was too large for the individual items to display, subsequent searches were qualified by date of publication, thus enabling the full display of each catalog record.

The first one used is of obscure origin and called "Glagolithic", but the one that found common use is now what we know as "Cyrillic." Centuries later, however, when Croatia and the Bosnia-Hercegovina region fell under Latin and Austro-Hungarian influence, the Latin alphabet was universally adopted by them.
Because of Bosnia's and Hercegovina's relatively isolated position, it began to develop somewhat independently, soon having its own uniquely "Bosnian" Church.
Some say it was an off-shoot of the Manichaeistic "Bogomils" that originated in Bulgaria.
